how have you learned what you know, avy one? books? etc

i kind of called you out earlier on it for oversimplifying it, but i think rowen (maybe?) said it is like teenagers and sex, it's inevitable so why not try and teach them a little, and i guess i agree with

All the stuff i have learned, is from spending many years hiking, ski touring, reading books and using online resource. Reading books and using online resources is good to a certain extent, but it isn't as good as enrolling in a one day avalanche awareness clinic or a level one.

Some time in the near future i'm going to try and get the money together to do the level one, them eventually follow on to the level 2 and 3 at some point.

level one taught me sooo much more than the books and little classes

I’m not going to discuss the weather, terrain and snowpack. But below i’m going to give you three simple reminders to remember.

1. Pay attention to any pre-season avalanche danger.

2. Awareness skills.

3. Plan your day.

-you've made 3 points none of which contain any actual advice. i'm not sure how i feel about dispensing any advice about avvy safety over the internets in any case...

whatever, do what you want but i think in some cases a little knowledge is more dangerous than none, and no matter how legit your advice might be, i really think the only the only avvy advice that should be given over the internet is:

"do an avvy course, get out into the backcountry with people that are qualified to pass on their experience to you"...

The three points i made weren't any sort of advice, it was just some simple reminders to remember. The blog isn't to educate people in any way. It's just a bit of fun reading on different aspect of avalanche safety.

In most cases, individuals who run around thinking they know it all or the individual who has little knowledge, are the types to get killed or seriously injured by avalanches.

I bet there is a lot of ski tourers in the alps, like my self who haven't done a level one or any avalanche awareness clinic in there life? The point i'm getting to is, these individuals have probably spent many years learning to read the terrain, slope angles and mountain weather ect. I'm not going to disagree about enrolling in a one day avalanche awareness clinic or a level one.

Although I appreciate your stand point and passion for the safety aspects of out of bounds skiing, and I don't want to belittle your passion and efforts with this, I just feel that there are many more credible resources for one to get educated about backcountry travel. Either way I agree with you completely about how important this knowledge is to have.
