event formating on the east coast

What's goin on everyone.

I dont want to take a lot of time away from you, I just have a quick couple of questions.

I am a Terrain Manager for a ski area in Connecticut, and I am working on this coming seasons event schedual. I've got my dates, and now I want to throw this out there. What kinds of formating have you seen that you've enjoyed from the last few seasons? I've tried open jam sessions, eliminations, invites, cash comps, chill comps, and what I want to know is, what are your favorites? I need to know this soon so I can write up descriptions to obtain event sponsors. Have the elimination comps been the best of 3 runs? best of 5? top 3 out of 5? How many contestants get prizes in the events you've participated in? Do you guys and gurls actually wear the event T-shirt, or does your mom use it to dust the TV? Who has been to an event with live music? What did you think? If your local hill had a weekly points series, would you participate? What if the same hill had an invite only cash comp at the end of the season, but there were 3 seperate qualifying events to offer you the chance to get in, would you be upset if you didnt make it?

I'm in a very awesome position that allows me to have complete control over these kinds of things, and I want to be sure that I can help as many people as I can to have an awesome time.

dude, the point series sounds like a sick idea. i'm in a point series in mountain biking (i know it's completely different) and it made competing a hell of a lot more fun. that way if you do bad in one comp you have all season to improve. and you have more incentive to learn new tricks, and keep competing and shit.

is sundown the place with that 100 footer?
I dont know if the point series would work, but its a good idea. Sometimes people cant come 4 or 5 weeks in a row, you should spread it out if you are going to do points. Also, best of 5 runs would be good but it would take so long, especially if alot of people entered

we did a points thing at our hill, 8 nights, 8 thursdays in a row, comp started at 6 and went til like 9, it was a diffrnt style each night, like big air, rails, slope, and they gave points, at the end they were all added up and its pretty much self explanitory from there, soooooo much fun........

make the highest point total of 3 nights the winner, that way people who can't come up can still win, but it means that the ones who compete all the time still have a slight advantage because they have more scores

indvite i dont think is good, b/c u wound not make as much money. i think a jam would be awsome. or a best 3 runs out of 5 then each rider gets 2 runs in the final, that would be awsome.

make it a 1 hour jam session and each run is scored and whoever gets the highest total of 3 runs wins

make a comp with a big QP at the end with a wall on one side so you can hit the wall and the QP. just have it be like a 1 jump 1 sweet rail and QP jam. every one would love you.

just make it so if your not a local, u can still win. I saw way to many kids get screwed outta deserving wins just cause they werent locals

jarrod, i hate the points series thing, but i am also lazy and hate having to be at a certain resort on a certain day. if you miss one day, why compete in any others. my favorite type of comp is where the winner is decided by the other riders. have everyone write down three names, or just describe the rider. it is so much better, and then there is no bitching about judging. but honestly, competitions in general suck

we had a points series and it was pretty good, and it was between 3 different ski areas. www.midwestx.com for details and stuff. i like the cash comps where if u do sumtihn kool people walk out and give you $$. and regular Jam sessions. at our hill we had a Rider Judged rail sesson. it worked good. everyone got a bib number, then at the end everyone got a piece of paper and they wrote the bib number or name of person who they though did best.

yea the MWX was prety sick as he said, but it didn't have a slopestlye, probably because of the size of our parks, but big air, rail, slope, and pipe(if you have one) are all good in a series. and people do wear the shirts

make a roller blade/skatebord style q/p so it is like a wall ride but with a changing slope so u could do sick butter tricks off it. that would be cool

with the point series you would need to take the best like 5 out of 9, for example, but it needs to be an odd number of comps so that it doesn't end up a tie

i think point serious is a dope idea at sundown, the more comps the better, the ones last year were nice you should defintely do more.. slopestyle, couple jams, big air at night would be cool i saw that on the website, i would definetly be at the comps
