Late blooming pros?

Any late blooming pros out there? Like skiers who really didn't start getting good till they were like 21+? I don't mean they turned pro at 21, I mean really didn't start getting good until 21 or so. Someone told me that Chris Turpin didn't even start skiing until he was like 20. Is that true or false? Kinda doubt that but hey who knows

truth...age is but a number, i heard travis redd turned pro at 26 or some shit like that and ive heard delorme is pretty old as well.

yeah, turpin was only skiing for like a year before he went big or got "pro" or whatever you wanna call it. i suppose he would have been around 20.

its good to see the old guys killing it because it gives me hope. i will never be pro skier but its just so discouraging to see kids like seamus (sp?) killing urban and throwing down crazy shit. and i am so much older and so much worse..

nahh hes right. delormes around 26 or so. killed it in the park for years, but i think hes moving into bc moreso for the future just because hes getting a little old for all park segs.

there would be a TON more older guys on the scene if skiing didn't have such a hard on for sponsoring 16 - 17 year olds who are same tricking each other.

but its skiing, and if you aren't competing, you won't get the recognition you deserve, bottom line.

i believe that hoji's first shots with matchstick weren't til he was 23 (correct me if i'm wrong). but i've heard rumors that he was in the park scene before that, haha.

one- both those guys have been in the scene for awhile- west was like 17 or 18 when he started getting big.

chug has been sponsored and around NS for at least five years(probably closer to 7 or 8), only really making the switch to "pro" in the last year or two (pro consisting of making a decent wage... two years ago cosco was asking kids to sign up for COC or HN so that he could have a summer job.)

turpin entered the sport as not only a gifted athlete but also at a time where switch 7's were winning x-games gold... sure he was 21, but it was ten years ago and the level of competition was completely different.

I hate to break it to you, but hoping to launch at career after twenty seems unlikely in a sport ruled by youth.

fuck that mess. regardless of your age, if skiing is something you love and you can see yourself legitimately doing at the upper echelon, go for it. something as silly as a number and sore joints shouldn't dumb down your spirits. i am 23 and just got my first legitimate hookups (/claim, cheesy i know).

I was  23 when I got my first sponsor.
If you concentrate on filming instead of competing and have a creative mindset you can make stuff happen.

I can't find the video, but there is a guy in Spain who is 31-ish and throwing dubs in the park and everything with amazing style. I'll keep trying to look for it. Pretty sick. Age doesn't mean anything.

Yeah I think Wammy Longnutz said he started skiing around 11 or so and started park right before he headed to college in Utah. Though I've been wrong before.

i feel like alot of pro's make it in their late teens and early 20's people "turning pro" when they are like 18-24 seems pretty normal. and the ones that turn pro later are usually better/cooler skiers. all the super young pro's that are under 18 are usually just the typical over techy generic style type pro's that are no fun to watch.

adam delorme is like 28 maybe even 29 now, probably the best overall park skier out there, unless all you care about is doubles. and he only became well known a couple years ago.

and yeah turpin was like 20-21 when he STARTED skiing, and he's one of the best overall skiers out there. and one of the most innovative.

i think abma and pollard were in their mid 20's when they made it.

seth morrison is like 35 maybe older and he kills it harder now than ever.

jp's gotta be in his mid 30's atleast and he just made one of the best segments of all time in revolver.

soooo yeah the 25+ year old pro's are the coolest. it seems like the closer they get to 30 the more awesome their skiing gets.
