nasri vs porto. Pure class. Footwork, finishing, it had everything.
long shots look spectacular, but usually are either pure luck or keeper/defensive error.
and listen to the crowds. Did the the dutch fans even realize they'd scored in a world cup semi final? Reminded me of how much I hate vuvuzelas. But listen to the crowd in nasri's goal. They went nuts.
I also attributed some of the great long shots going in to the jabulani being an absolute shit ball to play with. Played in a game with one awhile back, and it was harder to place a pinpoint pass of more than 25yds than it was to get a shot on target from the same distance.
ah dude.. there's just as much skill involved as luck when a good shooter gets an open step outside the 18, and places an 80 MPH knuckler exactly where he wants it
speaking of which though, how fast do the good shooters hit it? i guessed 80 cause ive had my shot clocked at 69 mph so i figure the prooos can add another 10 mph?
well there is of course some skill involved, but i don't think it involves nearly as much as a good goal on the ground like nasri's. Plus most of these long shots were with the jabulani, which means that as soon as the ball left the shooters foot, it was no longer skill, but rather adidas bending the laws of physics that put that ball where it went.
though altintop's was incredible. Could try that 1,000 times and never make it again
eh, not worth the money. I've played with one in a match and kick around with my friends.
in the match its just too unpredictable (I'm a keeper) and you can't figure it out. Had the same problem at first with the teamgeist, only that ball had patterns you eventually figured out, like the knuckling. Jabulani however, does not. It'll be coming in down to your left, but while you're diving that way, you look, and it's suddenly rising, and moves just inches up enough for you to miss it.
i didnt watch this til now. holy fuck... honestly how did that happen? the goalie, the first defender, the striker, and to a lesser extent the dude who hit the rebound should all quit soccer
How has nobody said Linus Hallenius the Swedish player? The ball doesn't even touch the ground off of the free kick...absolutely incredible. My vote goes to him.
yea exactly. Rather than having a relatively easy spin pattern based on how you struck it, teamgeist would literally just rock back and forth side to side, usually while either dropping or rising drastically. Played against some people who could put fierce rise on a shot with it. Definitely one of my favorite types to play with now.
jabulani had strange, somewhat asymmetrical graphics, which makes it a little harder to read as its coming at you fast.
I agree that Nasri's goal was insane, but their is definitely something to be said for taking a rip from a mile out in a World Cup Semi-Final rather than trying to work around it. Confidence like none other.
fastest goal ever scored in the champions league was by David Trezeguet for monaco vs Man Utd. 97.6 miles per hour. Ridiculous. Trying to find a video of it now.
corner kick taken out of the air from way out of the box by hamit altintop is fucking amazing.
And holy shit almost 100 mph. I don't know how fast I can kick but I'll be the first to admit I can't kick very hard, I usually get in close and go for accuracy.
do you drop your toe when you hit shots? i dont know how old you are but a lot of younger players hit with their instep and always hit sort of weaker shots that always hook (as opposed to slice) and once you drop your toe and hit knucklers and "slices" if you will, your shot speed will increase exponentially
goal is at about 1:30. 1998 champions league quarter final. Surprisingly it doesn't even really look that fast until you see the last replay, and realize that the keeper had barely moved until the ball was already in the back of the next.
i'm 18 and nah I don't drop my toe, I have a pretty good shot but I don't think I'm to high up there in power. I'm usually defense or mid though, so I give the crosses and chips, someone else makes the goals.
John Arne Riises' shot must of been like 100+ to break Alan Smiths leg just by hitting it ha. OT Linus Hallenius' goal was the most technical imo and GVB's was the most spectacular/on the biggest stage.
No offense man but you have to step out of your France bubble. Everything you post about football is showcasing everything French related. I've seen so many more goals better and more powerful than that one. Example:
yea...I'm French. But nonetheless, nasri's goal is still more technically brilliant than half those goals up there. Maybe it's just because I'm not that fascinated by long shot goals. They look great, but just don't compare.
and thats not my claim. That comes straight out of the uefa records. I didn't make it up, nor did I claim it was the fastest shot ever. I clearly said it was the fastest in the champions league.
Supposedly Beckham scored a faster one against chelsea in 1997, but there seems to be no record of it apart from that he did it. All the info seems to change between kph and mph depending on the site, but always using the same number. Somewhere around 98mph (or kph)
And apparently outside of the champions league, they keep no record of the fastest shot info which makes it hard to find. Makes sense though, because if it went in, no one cares how fast it was...and if it didn't...no one cares still.
Fastest miss is 114mph by david hirst, went off the bar. The one you posted was in 9th on the lists I went by. Tremendous shot but apparently looks a lot faster than it was. I figured it had to be top 3 at least.
supposedly this is the fastest goal ever scored. It takes the record overall, but its often not counted because it came off a freekick. I don't necessarily agree with that, because its sometimes harder to get the ball going without previous momentum. 131mph, which is obscenely fast. Unofficial though because of course since it was being played in a smaller setting, no speed guns or anything were set up, so they have to estimate by the video. .18 seconds to get past the keeper equals about 131mph.
Don't get me wrong, Nasri scored a great goal, I'm just pointing out that it seems all you present is positives about French football. I'm a Chelsea fan, however Nasri is one of the only players on Arsenal that I like. Personally I find the list of goals to be quite odd, because in my opinion I've seen many better goals throughout the year.
