PSA: Crazy shit happens

I don't know why I'm telling this story now cause it happened more than a year ago, but i was just in my car and thought about it

my friends (we'll call them chris and holly) and i were about to embark on a pretty long road trip in the jetta chris had just bought. about 5 minutes away from the highway, it started smoking really bad so we pulled over (out of pure luck, we were next to a friend's house) and popped the hood. nothing there, so the smoke was coming out of the wiring behind the wall. two seconds later, there are flames coming out from underneath the pedals. we start to grab water but realize water doesnt do so hot with electrical fires and i send holly in to try to find a fire extinguisher (chris was busy standing open mouthed at his car, which he had literally just bought, go up in flames) (the house doors turned out to be locked so no fire extinguisher)

anyway, 3 minutes later this car is going up in flames, and i have to pull holly and chris away from the car cause they were crazily trying to get all their valuables out. i grab their backpacks because i assumed (correctly, it turned out) that their most valuable stuff was in there and push them away from the car, and good thing because a minute later there's a big pop and the flames push out the windows.

10 minutes later and the car is a big black piece of burnt steel. while we waited for the fire dept and tow truck i pulled out his ruined guitar and most of his clothes.

what's the moral? well, be careful where you get your car i guess.. but more importantly, BUY A SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT IT IN YOUR CAR. you will never regret it
