Roof racks safety

Im looking at the Yakima Rocket box 16 and i go to school in a very urban area and people will skrew with anything and if im going to be keeping my skis in it i want them to be secure how safe are these things locking systems and can people just take the whole thing off my car easily........?

in mine you can easily just screw it off with an allen wrench, but thats unlikely that they would happen to have one the right size on them, let alone even have one. so if it has a lock on it you should be good

mine has a shitty lock that can easily be bypassed. its also pretty easy to take your skis out every night and would be worth it if it means they don't get stolen.

Im not saying they look for skis in their spare time but they are very destructive so if they see a big container in my car they will want to see whats in it......get where im going

I have the normal clip racks what would ones skis do if i leave them on there like a week or 2 at a time and ski them 8 days for like a 5 hour session at the mountain. when i ask what would they do i mean would it harm them in any way my skis are also afterbangs so i dont know about the wood might have a different effect

you'll probably rust the shit out of your edges, not to mention if you live in an area where it snows and they use salt on the road, I'm sure that wouldn't be that great for them either

i have a yakima ski rack on my jeep and it locks up and everything but you cant leave your skis in there for long periods of time... of course they'll get jacked, its only for on the way to the mountain and you dont want skis and boards taking up all the space in your car
