The other thread is messy, and people are responding without reading the thread. Basically the OP did a great job but had to multiple times tell kids there are better alternatives.
After research i found this site to be the most helpful:

But the question becomes shock cord or surgical tubing:
Surgical Tubing:
3/8 inch (good, thicker the better) @ 50ft = $39.95.
This would be all you need, 3 strands @ 16 ft each or 4 strands @ 12 feet each
Shock Cord:
"Shock cord (bungee) is a longer-lasting and more durable alternative to
surgical tubing because it is rot-proof, waterproof, and resistant to
mold, mildew and UV. Shock cord is constructed of continuous rubber
strands with a Nylon abrasion-resistant braided jacket, suitable for
marine applications. Stretches 100% of its original length; a piece
12-inch long will stretch to 24-inch."
This seems exactly what we need. Only problem is at max available, 3/16 of an inch is super thin. Thats half the size of the tubing.
3/16 @ 100ft = $38.95
You would need 6 strands of this to equal 3 strands of the surgical tubing (so price point is dead accurate).
6 strands of a 100ft roll = 16 ft each. Once you braid this though it will drop in length marginally, i am going to assume to 9-10 ft (6 strands means alot more weaving).
I found this link to show how to braid 6 strands. It looks fairly simple once you get the hang of it.

Once you braid 6 strands at 3/16each your final bungee will have a diameter of just over 1 inch.
I think i am going to buy the shock cord system but my question to you guys is this: How stretchy is the tubing system? It poses alot less work to implement, and the less weaving (less strands) mean you get more length for your money.
