Mounting walls backwards- terrible idea?

i had 2010 walls last year and really like them, tho they're starting to fall apart and get kinda soft. i'm aware that life is too short for the exact same pair of skis twice, but i had to pick up another pair cause my local shop was selling them for new for $190 and i couldn't resist.

would it be a bad idea to mount one of the skis backwards so i'm not staring at the same topsheet for another season? theoretically, they're 100% symmetrical, so it shouldn't matter. however, i think i remember hearing somewhere that even symmetrical skis are slightly stiffer in the tails.

if they are 100% semetrical than yea you can with no problems, i had a friend with line invaders had he had mix match, go for it

Defs not a good idea. Even though the ski is symetrical the flex differs. Do I would not say it is a good idea.

i was told if the ski is semetrical the flex is the same in the opposite spot on the ski

Doesn't seem worth it to me. Graphics on skis don't even matter that much.

this is not always true, it needs to say it has a symmetrical flex pattern, for example the line stepup. The wall does not have a symmetrical flex. It has a stiff tip and a soft tail. So no you cannot do this

I had to mount my Anthems backwards last season because of a previous mount and they worked just fine.

those who said they have mounted their skis one forawrd one backward are symmetrical flex and sidecut. no volkl wall description say anything other than symmetrical sidecut.

i ride wall's and ill say the tips are softer than my tails.

good point- doesn't say anything about symmetrical flex. i think my old pair is a little softer in the tips too, but i always figured it was cause i do a lot of nose butters and tip stands. flexing my new pair, i can't tell any difference between the tip and tail.

alright so after reading this i don't think i'll mount backwards, but i'm gonna wait until my old pair complete falls apart before i mount them anyway.

maybe i'll email volkl and ask them about it.

Contact volkl or someone that knows the flex specs. Most skis are stiffer in the tails, and by mounting them backwards you could ruin how they ski.

My shop mounted my Anthems backwards. I dont really care though. They still ski great.

wow. my neighbor has disorderly's and he got both of his mounted backwards on accident. he was pissed at first but its the same flex so it didnt even effect the skis at all

i dont think theres any need to email them this was taken from evo.com in the description of the 2010 model

Core and Flex Pattern – Multi layer wood core with butter zones. The front of the ski is stiff; since the rocker design is pre-flexed, added stiffness in front provides stability. The flex in the mid-body of the ski is medium, providing a transition to the softer tail, which allows ease of turning on the groomed, and maneuverability in powder.

If you mount them both backwards you'd pretty much have a whole new flex pattern, but it'd be the same on both skis. I'd like to add I know nothing about mounting skis...

Yeah, like how mounting at the true center of a ski isn't the same as mounting at the center of the core because even on symmetrical skis the core thickness and flex could differ tip/ tail.

definitely don't do it.. the tails of the ski have a softer flex then the tips so your skis would feel really weird.

alright so i'm for sure not gonna mount them backwards, but i don't think that's right. it does say that on the evo website, but walls definitely don't have a "pre-flexed rocker" in the tip. that description sounds like the gotama...maybe evogear mixed them up. the soft tail would make sense in the gotama, because the stiff rockered tip could bust through crud while the soft tail would be more forgiving for groomers.

i also don't understand everyone is saying the tails would ever be softer in the walls...if anything, wouldn't they be stiffer? i've never heard of a stiff tip and soft tail in a park ski, but have definitely heard of the opposite.

The shop mounted my walls backwards.... twice. .... (two different pairs)

Flex and shape are symmetrical tip and tail. It's all the same.

I called volkl so from the horses mouth.

Now wait, whats the point of a symmetrical ski if it isn't the same on both ends? I'm pretty sure (or at least i'd like to think) all symmetrical skis are the same in dimension and inner pieces on both ends. I wouldn't want a symmetrical ski tht has different flexes in the tip and tail cause now it doesn't ride the same forward and backwards.

If you read the description in this it will tell you that the front of the ski is stiffer then the back so that it will allow for easier turning. Although it has symmetrical side cut it does not have symmetrical flex. I own walls and can vouch for this. The new 2011 do have symmetrical flex but not the 2010
