Probably will be one of the most realistic racing games to this point. The modding is unbeatable. Superior game to the other bullshit.

indeed they did 1up forza. and yes i want the rallying too but i cant believe that travis pastrana is actually going to nascar (just google it and you can probably find the article) but yes i want the rally too. I got to drive my frinds rally car this summer.....it was an older 2.5rs.....his name is billy petrow and his friend matt gottlieb let me help him build a $150,000 rallycross car. hope i can drive that soon.

I like my fair share of racing games but games that are ultra simulation like the GT series just aren't for me. Far too complicated (seriously... I need to get a license? WTF?)

It's fun, it sucks and overall it's awesome. It takes forever to beat or even come close. I remember people telling me all these games that were so much better, I'd sit down and beat those games in a day or 2. this game takes way longer than that. So much you can do.

It's been so long since I played it, It might take me a while to get back into it.



Does anyone know if they have a legit wheel/pedal kit with a proper shifter and clutch?

It is the ultimate driving simulator. The sort of game for us closet nerds that like to adjust spring rates, downforce, toe/camber angles and gear ratios.

Occasionally there's nothing more enjoyable than drifting round corners with 6 cops on your tail whilst smashing through fire hydrants and bouncing off walls.

If I want to do that I'll go play Need for speed/Grand theft auto, but truth is those games get mega boring and are too far in the opposite direction - mega unrealistic which is not what I look for in my driving games.

And to the guy who mentioned AC... The create thread button is your friend.

Well see the thing is I play games like GRiD and DiRT too where you can monkey with that stuff (at least in GRiD) but for me personally that much in Gran Turismo is just too insane.

Its not like you have to ever mess with any of that stuff. I've played the first 4 and probably did nothing but change the downforce and the gear ratios every now and then.

True true, but if you know how to fiddle with your suspension set up it makes the difference between winning or losing. I didn't bother messing around with settings until GT4, but I'm so glad I did.

Read some online guides on it and the game becomes a million times more enjoyable, the cars are soooooooo much nicer to drive when everything's set up well.

with regards to thread topic:

I am ever so thankful I have a 360 and PS3. I've bought and played Forza 3, it's a solid game but it gets boring really fast.

Never before have I seen just about every RWD car handle and drift so poorly, even if the car was a perfectly balanced racing machine. Mind you I race with every assist except ABS off, but there should still be considerably less wheelspin than what I experienced.

If there was only a night time option, I would have the best drift and mountain pass shots on Fujimi Kaido.

If GT5 is able to surpass Forza in the ability to visually design a car, as well as well as providing a solid experience and physics in drifting, I will unanimously crown it the best racing game of the decade.

At least until GT6 comes out...

I've been waiting along time for this game to come out. Nov 24th is the day I will go buy a PS3 just for this game.  When it comes to racing games I am such a geek that I find myself playing for hours.

do racing games have anything like this? right trigger gas, left trigger clutch, (brake.. b? i dont know), then have the right stick be the shifter? so you actually had to use the clutch and shift and stuff? seems with all the realism going into it this would be around

Sounds like it could work but it might just be really clumsy and awkward. I know you can set it to manual in GT but its just a matter of shifting up and down, no clutch.

Need for Speed Pro Street, DiRT, GRiD, and Need for Speed Undercover all had a clutch option I think. DiRT and GRiD were the only ones were it felt like it worked ok. And when I say DiRT I include DiRT 2.

I think it did. I can't remember as I tried it once and was horrible at it (I still have never driven a stick in real life) so I switched back to automatic.

I believe so with B or one of the bumpers being regular brake/reverse (or circle and L1 on the PS3) and A or X as the handbrake. It got a little complicated which is why I opted out.

There may have been a way you could configure the controller more to your liking though but I never looked into it too much.

Actual config for Forza 3:

Left trigger: brake
Left Bumper: clutch
Right Trigger: gas
Right Bumper: change camera

A: handbrake
B: ? (Possibly accesses telemetry)
X: shift down
Y: shift up
Right Stick: rotate camera
Left Stick: steer

Bumpers would suck as brake or gas, they're not pressure sensitive, and kind of hard to keep pressed. Pretty much every game involving cars uses LT as brake and RT as gas.
