This afternoon, i had one of the biggest battles with my personal morals that i can remember.
To give some background information, my younger brother outgrew his old skis and with winter on its way, needed some new ones. Wanting to get into telemark, my mom bought him a pair of K2 Baker AT Touring skis from Evo.
I arrived home today to find the box had come in the mail. My mom was gone for a few hours and my brother (who got the skis) is camping for the weekend, leaving me home alone. With nothing else to do, i opened the box to check out my brother's skis and found a surprise. By sheer accident, Evo had packaged with my brother's skis, a pair of 10/11 Line Chronics in 176 (my size) initially i reacted like any 17-year old would. I was pumped. Free skis? Come on, who would pass that up? About 20 minutes later, it set in. I began asking myself "is this right?" After about an hour of battling with my conscience, i called up Evo and told them the situation.
For those that dont believe me...
I remembered the feelings of disgust i get when a pair of skis gets stolen at my home mountain, and by keeping the skis that i did not pay for, i was on the same level as the people that steal off the racks. I realized that were all in this together, and ultimately i would be hurting fellow skiers. Say what you may, but I'm going to rest easy tonight knowing i made the right call.
