Binding mount

so i was really excited to get my 4frnts mounted up cuz i get to go skiin tomorrow at snowbird, but i got them back, and i noticed that the bindings are slightly crooked. they just arent centered from left to right...will this make a difference, or affect my skiing at all? thanks for the responses +karma

alright so the heel piece is a little slid over, and not centered with the toe piece...so the toe piece center is a little to the left of the center of the heel piece. i went skiing on it, and anytime i did spins it would pop off...(my dins are at 8 and only the one ski popped off). i also just landed switch once and the ski popped off. so what can i do about this? what should i say to the shop that did it?

that's really bad. you should take the skis back to the shop and demand a new pair. they're probably not going to give you a new pair, but it never hurts to try. the only problem is that you probably want them mounted in the same place (but straight) in which case the set of holes already drilled in would conflict with the new mount. so, argue that to them, and you might get a new pair of skis!

yeah so i definitely want them in the same place (center), but how likely is it that they actually give me new skis? and what should i expect them to do? and would it be okay if they filled in the holes and remounted it a slight bit over (on both the ski, and the possibility of the holes/bindings coming out)?

see the problem with that is i bet the original set of holes is only a few millimeters off, am i right? in this case, when the shop goes to drill them again in the center (horizontally) the screws are going to go into the original holes. it would probably look something like this for each screw/hole:

if that's what it ends up looking like, you're extremely likely to pull them out, and you should argue for a new set of skis, or at least one new ski (if the other one was drilled properly).

does that make sense kinda?

make them give you new skis, its not your fault that they screwed up and you shouldnt have to suffer. They had to get my buddy 2 pairs of supermojos cause the tech didnt listen to what my friend wanted. You pay too much for this shit to have some retard mess them up before you can even use them. I hate when people dont take pride in their work, lazy pricks.

Man that sucks and is super lame of the shop. You should definitely get them corrected- the easiest way to save these is have the guys refund the cash for your mount, take them to a much better shop, and have them install some quiver killers in the correct spots.

Because they are probably off by less than an eight of an inch, you can move the holes over a little without risking pullout and have them aligned correctly. The shop should be pretty legit and know how to use a mill or end mill in a drill press, cause their jigs aren't going to save you. If you are around lower Michigan I can fix them for you. Sorry man, I get so angry every time I see a botched mount.

And tell these guys they should give you free shit or new skis first, see how it goes. If they treat you like shit, make sure you post up on here who they are so nobody else gets screwed over by them.

And check the forward pressure if you know how, if they don't know how to align a mount, they may have the forward pressure wrong and that's why you are prereleasing.

To me this is a clearcut case of getting new skis. Seriously, they messed up your skis, they give you new ones, simple as that. If you were getting your bike fixed and they broke the frame and then just glued it back together and gave it to you, you would demand a new bike, because the old one is ruined, same thing. Remounting is extremely undesirable, get new skis.

ok so i measured the heel pice, and it is shifted over between a 1/16 and 1/8 of an inch...hope that makes sense. ill call the shop tomorrow and see what they say.

Don't go in there shouting in the first instance though - it may be a legitimate mistake not just pure lazy/crapness. Everyone screws up once in a while and it's possible they just missed it, maybe they're really busy in the pre-season rush?

Give them a chance to sort it out and if they're a good shop they'll make it right.
If they don't, that's when you start the shit-flinging.

so i went in and explained the situation to the manager, and all he had to offer was that he could move the bindings back or forward more and remount them. do you guys think that is an acceptable offer? or what should i say? sorry for the obnoxious questions haha.

not acceptable at all. you obviously had them mounted where you wanted and will ride best, it's their mistake all the way. demand new skis. if they aren't already, get your parents involved and explain to them the situation

Be that as it may, this guy did originally want them center mounted (without the binding being crooked, obviously) and that's not what the shop delivered.

If they can't remount them at center in a way that's acceptable to you (read: not going to fall apart and result in you breaking a leg) then they're pretty much boned and should either replace the ski or compensate you for their screw-up.

Imagine if you took a car into a workshop and they damaged your manual gearbox somehow. Even if they offered to replace it with an automatic, which would probably be easier to drive, you bought it in the first place to drive a stick so they should either replace the original or compensate you in some way.

you can only mount skis two or three times, and the third mount is questionable... the more times you drill them out to mount and shit the weaker your ski and if you keep mounting at center its like putting a perforated edge in your ski. if you bought these brand new you should def get your parents involved ( i dont know how old you are) but thats totally unacceptable to botch a job like that. dont be a dick because no one wants to help a douche but dont be a pushover, they know its unnacceptable but prolly dont want to give away a pair of skis because of some tech who was high or something. even if it was an accident, it wasnt your fault. and dont forget to post the shop if they screw you because that dude was right other ns'ers shouldnt be giving them business if they handle it like that. unfortunately you may have just learned an expensive lesson, ALWAYS KNOW WHOS MOUNTING YOUR SHIT haha good luck man

You need to go in acting nice, but i really wouldn't accept anything less than a new pair. Explain to them that if you wanted to buy a pair of skis with holes in them, you could've saved $300 buying a used pair. Instead you spent your hard earned money on buying a new pair of skis that will be safer, and perform better than a used pair. You CAN NOT go into the shop screaming and yelling, you need to be polite, but firm. If you are young, I would def. suggest gettign your parents involved.

I don't think a remount is ok, if it was a misunderstanding and the ski was mounted too far back/forwards then maybe, but seeing as it was a fuckup by the tech and it's affecting your skiing.... Try and get a new pair bro,

same thing happened to me and 2 of my buddies, all in the span of about a week. all got our stuff done at the same shop and the same tech fucked up 3 pairs of skis. one set of S7s and 2 sets of cholesterones. the owner was really cool about it and gave us our money back then fired the tech who fucked up about $1600 worth of skis.

agree completely. although they may not "ideally" be mounted at center, this kid obviously knew what he wanted and wasn't given it. he absolutely deserves more than remounted skis

If they absolutely refuse to give you new skis, contact the better business bureau.

You probably signed a release, and if they fucked it up, they didn't hold up to their end of the bargain, making it void. Therefore, you would actually have a case.

My suggestion- take them to judge judy, she will straighten them out hahaha

i figured the sitation out. i hadnt had much time to talk to the shop about what to do, but i got them to refund my mount for the skis, and the shipping i paid for the skis. i am just going to return the skis to backcountry, which i feel bad about because its not their problem, but was the only solution. the shop is outdoors unlimited in provo, and i dont suggest going there. theyre nice people, but their employees are not trained too well. im pretty sure htey tried to freehand my bindings hahaha. so shit quality, but nice people i guess. anyways thanks for the advice from everybody

just wondering how, when drilling the holes, it could end up crooked?

when i use a jig to mount, the spring arm things on the side make sure the holes are centred no matter what the width.

so they either did it freehand or cant use a very simple piece of equiptment.

Hold the phone. How are you going to return them? They've been mounted, and mounted badly at that. They're essentially fucked. I mean sure someone who doesn't want them mounted center could re-mount and probably use them for years but to you their monetary value is close to $0 and that's because the shop fucked them up. Not Backcountry. You have nil recourse with them, they aren't going to refund you because your shop ruined them.

Your beef is with the shop, go and make them sort you out. Don't let them cop out of it, as soon as you accept that deal you're pretty much screwed and stuck with ruined skis worth $5 as bits of a funky looking garden chair.

if I was in the same situation I would fix the mount and drop a steaming bag of shit inside the shop for good measure. Fuck anybody in this thread backing up the idea that it's ok to screw over backcountry.

ive pretty much told everybody that i know to avoid using them, and that they have no knowledge whatsoever of what they are doing. and to the dude below who said i shouldnt fuck over backcountry, trust me i wouldnt if it wasnt my only choice. these people at the shop are not going to budge, and i am 21 so i dont have parents to come in and argue or threaten for me. they view me as an insignificant bum who poses no threat hahah. i guess when i said they were nice people, i didnt mean they handled the situation nicely. i dont have the money to make a small claims suit or anything, so the only option is to return them to backcountry. i feel like shit about it trust me you dont have to tell me that i should. but its the only way out. i have been a loyal customer to solely backcountry for the past 5 years, and i will never purchase anything elsewhere because of their customer service

in 2008 i bought a pair of k2 seths. it was feb here (our season doesn't start til june) so i said to them i didn't need them mounted in a hurry. i went back a month later and asked if they'd been done. he said that i said i didnt need them in a rush so no they werent done. i said thats fine, how about 2 weeks? he said fine. same thing happened and he promised to have them done within a week. i went back at the end of that week and they'd mounted them at the traditional midsole position, not 2.5cm back from centre like i asked. the tech who handed me the skis honestly didn't know. so someone had lost the form i filled out which said clearly where i wanted them mounted. i spoke to a family friend who is a lawyer and he said to ask for a new pair of skis, or if they said no to get a signed guarantee that if the skis broke along the line of the old mounting holes that the shop would replace them free of charge. the shop refused to give me new skis so the latter agreement was made, despite the owner saying several times "they wont break, they just wont". to his credit they haven't broken but its always in the back of my mind.

anyway, never going there again to buy skis. its Skiman Bobs in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia.
