Am I Man Enough for FKS 180

i can get a decent deal on these puppies and would rather the all metal toe that the 140 does not offer. i am 6'1'' 205-210 and only ski east coast park. next season i am moving to whistler for six months and want a reliable binding for when i am there. i have heard some people say that you should not ride your binding at one of the lower setting and i have heard some people say it is fine. in your opinion can i handle these bad boys?

what skis are you putting them on and what level skiier are you. ^ but ye if you need to ask, there maybe not ideal. also it is ok to ski them on the lower end of the din setting, around 12 or so is fine.

i will be buying new skis in march so i am not too sure. i do not sure what skieer level i am. i would consider myself a good skier and will only get better considering i will be skiing everyday at whistler. i ride my current bindings at ten. if i set the fks180 at ten would that be too low? thanks again ns

it sounds to me like the 180s are just going to be complete overkill, i mean you could set them at ten but theres just no point, so much extra unneeded weight. i would advise against them tbh.

If you ski at 10 they will be fine. Your way to big for the 14s.

unless your planning on jacking your dins up over 14/15 just go for a 15/16 din binding

the fks 140 does not have a metal toe. i am going to be skiing a lot and assume the 180 would be more durable. basically all i want to know is can i ride fks 180 at a din of 10 or is that hard on the binding?

Have you ever blown up a toe piece before? Not ripped it out, but blown it up because it was made of plastic and not metal?

This is an 18 din binding you are talking about. Why would you need an 18 din binding for east coast skiing?

Sure they will work on 10, hell, they will even work at 8.
But there's just no point in it, you'll just be a fucking poser!

You should ski pretty fucking hard to blow up the 14's toe piece.
All this talk about "I don''t wanna risk anything, I'm just gonna get the 16/18 din version" is just getting ridiculous!
Maybe 30-40% of the people with a 16din or more binding actually needs them..

if the deal is good enough so that they are similarly priced to the 140s, get them. you're pretty big and if your skiing everyday than the extra durability will be worth it. if you can find 140s that are alot cheaper, id go for those. the din will be high enough for you and they will be lighter.

Nope your not, If you have to ask. FKS 14's will be just fine. Why on earth would you buy those unless you were gonna have your bindings at 14 or above?

An 18-din binding is basically pointless unless you are taller than 6ft and weigh more than 200 pounds. If you really only ride a din setting like 8 or 10, theres no need for an 18 din binding.

because the fks 140 has a plastic toe and the 180 is metal. i can get a good deal on the 180s so i figured i might as well get the all metal ones which are more reliable. i will be riding at least six times a week while in whistler and do not want to worry about my bindings breaking. i am trying to eliminate any possible problems. maybe i am an idiot and that is why i came to ns to ask for some insight.

Yes you are man enough. If you ride at 10, FKS 180s are fine for you. I used to ride my Scratch 140 bindings at 9 and I am going to be riding my Pivot 180s at 9 or 10. I am 150lbs. The reason why I bought Pivots is because I have had Salomons and Marker Griffons before but I like the Rossi 140s best. I like the way I feel locked in but the brakes would always break. Last season, I also went through two pairs of them because I broke the plastic toe piece the same way two times. Do I need a din of 18? No I would be fine with the 140s but they have the crappy toe piece so I have the 180s.The brake is also less likely to break off since it's part of the baseplate.

You could also go with a Rossignol Freeski 150. It has the all metal toe piece the the FKS 180, but with a non-pivot heel. It's DIN goes to 15 which I think would be more than enough. You can find them for real cheap if you look around.

I'm like 5'9 200 and I'm getting a pair for next year. I'll only be running them at 10 or 11 but since I seemed to spend most of this year hitting knuckles, flats or the walls on stepups and breaking gear I'm going for the burliest, most bomber binding I can find. Plus they're fluro fucking orange, who can say no to that?

terrible binding, I have the px18 dynastars on my skis and they exploded mid season twice, first time pulling a 540 in the park, second time landing switch in pow.

Im not touching another freeski,px binding again.

Congrats, you've passed the Man test.  You are man enough for the FKS 180.  I'm a bit smaller and have had pairs of FKS 155's and love them.  After trying tons of different bindings (a lot of the Look/Rossi binders, Salomon binders, Jesters/Dukes) I can honestly say that the FKS bindings are the best.  In terms of higher din bindings, I had a lot of problems with durability of my Jesters.  My STH 16's still hold up amazing and are pretty kick ass, the only thing I like about the FKS more is that they feel closer to the snow/lower to the ski.  Personal preference maybe, but I like my bindings to be as close to the ski as possible, fuck all those absorption pads Look has been getting into lately.

seeing how I ski primarily east coast I only use all metal bindings because out here we land on ice. We are much more metal than the pussies that ski in Utah.  I have broken dozens of heel and toe pieces of bindings in my teens until I met the red white and blue look p 18.

ALL Metal Bindings are the only bindings real skiers ski. I have 6 pairs of skis and everyone has either a Rossi FKS 18 or the Look Pivot 18. You are closer to the ski on these than any other bindings out there. My girlfriend who is a ripping rider uses Pivot 14s and the  FKS 14 which are also bad ass but the toe is plastic and thus not as heavy.
