I've had a few, my life is anything but serene normally. . .
Switzerland- spent a late January week in Zermatt, and I skipped out on the riding one day since it was snowing very hard and none of the lift were running, and woke up the next day to socked in skies in town.
That is, until I took the gondola up to find blue skies, and a sea of freshly covered peaks above a layer of fog in the valley below. And 2 ft+ of powder.
Two weeks in September in the Sierras- not snow related, but you know, just you, your car, some camping gear, and for once, a quiet mountain range without the summer crowds. It was an unusually hot September that year (2003), and I spent two weeks hiking the various passes and lakes in the area, on my own, before joining up with some friends and summiting Whitney. The last real calm before a rather stormy next seven years.
