it's a bike speedometer, you need to enter your wheel diameter when calibrating the thing, i bet the people in the movie didn't calibrate it at all ....

so for every revolution of the wheel the speedometer thinks it went over a distance equal to the circumference of a bike wheel instead of a hamsterwheel ....

so i call shenanigans !
