Cheapest DSLR?

Yo NS,

So recently, as some of you know, I have been interested in using DSLR's to film and I have been looking into the t2i. Well, I'm a little short on money as it is (already selling a bunch of stuff, check my threads) and I was looking for the cheapest DSLR camera that films as well as takes photo's. The Nikon D3100 is the cheapest I have seen so far, but I need to find one that maybe is a bit cheaper.

you know, i stopped keeping up with the new dslr's awhile ago and I don't quite remember if canon had a generation before the current ones that can take video. You'd be best off getting a used one, either canon or nikon.

the t2i is the bast bang for your buck. but yea the d3100 is cheaper, and the d5000 is very well priced but it only shoots 720p, not that great quality.

Oh I want a DSLR because I want a DSLR. I've done my fair research on them and it is the camera I want to own, just I want the cheapest possible, but with similar specs to the t2i because I have done ALOT of research on it. I do see your point though.

They take pretty pictures and ughh are digital and have a big lens oh and I can twist the little lensy cover thingy to make it blurry and get artsy as fuck...why else?

if you want a dslr that also takes video for cheap, the t2i is going to be your best bet. cheapest dslr to have full hd and manual focus while filming.

I'm not interested in the highest mega-pixel camera, I wanted a nice depth of field camera, as well as a camera that offers a WIDE selection of lenses (more options for me), and all DSLR's have larger sensors than most digitals, meaning better looking shots, which is what we all want, right? Lastly, I like the high signal to noise ratio.

Research meaning what the DSLR's are capable of. If I'm not mistaken, I beleive that was pretty obvious. Looking for the cheapest availabe due to how much money I have was the second step. I am currently on that step. Since I needed help, I created this thread.

copy pasted AGAIN from M&A (where this thread should be)

a VDSLR is not as simple as an actual video camera. for one, dont expect to just be able to hand it to your homies and have them film for you, without some camera knowledge they wont crank out great shots. AF is simply too slow to use, so you have to be good at focusing on the fly, or stop down to get a deeper D0F. Stabilization (tripod, glidecam, etc) is also essential because the camera is really too light to hold very steady handheld. your tripod CAN double as a ghetto-glidecam, but be prepared for those expenses.

finally your camera is only as good as the glass in front of it, so be prepared to shell out for some nice primes or an expensive fixed aperture zoom. however some of that cost can be reduced by hunting for old pentax, nikon, or canon glass on ebay and getting an adapter ring for around 10 bucks. just stay away from anything that needs glass in an adapter (aka Canon FD mount, and i believe some nikon mounts as well).

so in other words, searching for the cheapest indicates to me that you dont really have the money for a decent setup. because its not just the camera, its so much other stuff as well.

im not trying to say the t2i or similar camera is wrong for you, just make sure you understand the limitations before you drop 1k plus on a setup.

this. especially when it comes to new digital stuff. some of the older things, (and I mean like a year or two old) are really inferior to new stuff.

Narrower aperature means lighter depth of field than a wider aperature. f2.8 is dealing with lenses, if I'm not mistaken. I am learning about light meters, definitely not a professional at it. Yes, I know about shutter speed, and yes. Alot, if not all, of what you were talking about deals with lenses. Yes, I know the money is in the lense, and it doesn't matter what type of body you have, the lense is what counts for your final product. Have I proved to you that I know what I'm investing in?

Anyways, maybe a DSLR isn't right for me, it's pretty obvious that I am not ready for one. Is it proven now I am just an idiot?

And yes, I know. The lense(s) I was looking at were all fairly expensive, but not to the point where they are professional. Around 400$, but I wasn't judging the quality based on the price. I think I'm done trying to prove to you that I know what I'm talking about. If a DSLR isn't right, what do you think is?

well if you're just trying to shoot video... a video camera. but you could still get a dslr. I mean it's nice to be able to shoot videos and photos. Plus there are good lenses that aren't super expensive.
