Well, cheap/non-embarassing jewelry is always good.

You could also think about what her interests are: movies, books, comics...

Anything with a comedy value of "HA-HA" of five seconds after presenting is really not worth it. I'd say 2-6 movie tickets with a long expiration date would cover you. :)

something that a) takes effort to acquire/create, b) something that comes from the heart.

back when i had a gf, for her birthday i made a giant collage of pictures of just me and her. it was taken from hundreds of pictures that i cut out, and pasted onto a giant bristol board, and then i had a little quote on the middle of it all. something that was meaningful to us.. know you.

sure, it's a little bit sappy, but anybody can go out and buy something. take the time to come up with something that really shows her that you care. it may seem a little silly, but the meaning behind your actions are what's really important.

i went back and re-read what you wrote, and didn't realize that she's just a friend. in that case, i dont really know, but i'd still suggest doing something meaningful and sweet for her, rather than just picking up some material item and handing it to her..

It really depends on how close you are to the girl/how close you want to get with the girl. Regardless, don't buy a gift certificate, that's just lame, and if you're not like... super good friends don't go for victorias secret haha. Give us some more info how this girl, what she likes, music she listens to, style of clothing, and then we can actually help you out.

I would suggest making something either way, but I can give you more suggestions with more info.

Friends - something meaningful is always good even if its a movie you've watched together or a CD that you know she's said she wanted just something that means you've listened and put thought into it. . . doesn't have to be massively expensive a great mix cd is always a good one or something of that nature :) Or if she's a jewellery girl that never fails :) Hope it goes well
