meh wrong answer. I've been a soccer referee for the last 5 years, and they told us every year almost the same example. Here's a good one :

if the ball is going in the net, but a stupid dog run to the ball, stop it and he thinks he's funny. The goal cant be allowed because the ball didnt cross the line. It's the same thing in that video but the dog is replaced with the brillant medic.... It's really lame but the referee cant allowed that goal and must take back the play with a drop ball ( I think it's the right word, I'm french ahahah ).

But im still curious what was his call on the play.

i know its wrong. read my other answers, there is one like 2 down from the one you quoted, and another at the bottom of the first page. i said basically the same thing you did. it just took me a minute to realize it haha

this thread seems to be turning into a debate about who was a soccer referee longer. veryyy interestingg..

on a different note, If I ever had the opportunity to make an interference play like that in such a big game I would rape the shit out of it with my soccer peen. Depending on which team i liked better I probably would have either headed it in or just booted the fuck out of it then stripped and booted a couple laps around the field before being arrested.

Let's get some things cleared up.

A goal cannot be awarded, the ball never crossed the line in its entirety. Having said that, the referee could award a goal claiming he 'thought' it did cross the line completely before the medic cleared it.
Law 10
"A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between
the goalposts and under the crossbar, provided that no infringement of the
Laws of the Game has been committed previously by the team scoring the
goal."

Play should have continued until it was stopped by the referee. whether that was as soon as the medic headed the ball or 10 seconds later, it is when the referee blows his whistle to halt the game.

At this point, a drop ball would be given.

If a drop ball was given, it was not in the box.
Law 8
"The referee drops the ball at the place where it was located when play was
stopped, unless play was stopped inside the goal area, in which case the
referee drops the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point
nearest to where the ball was located when play was stopped."

The guy who attacked the medic should have been sent off or at least cautioned
Law 12
"He is also guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality against
a team-mate, spectator, match offi cial or any other person."


In the interest of sportsmanship, the defending team should have probably deliberately conceded a goal after the restart of play. But there is no rule as such and the referee has no power to force them to.

ok i have the answer, in soccer, for a medic to come onto the field he must be called on by the head referee and if he steps onto the field without permission from the ref then the opposing team gets an automatic free kick, which in this case would result in a penalty shot.
