why the FUCK does a snow helmet with no face protection that is subjected to lower impact ratings than bike helmets, cost just as much as a fucking full-face mountain bike helmet rated at higher impact speeds and safety standards?
i'm asking because i need a new skiing helmet and i'm fucking baffled by how the average snow helmet seems to be priced at $150. i got my full-face protec MTB helmet for $140 and it's guaranteed to protect my head better than any of these fucking snow helmets. you can buy 661's safest MX helmet for the same price as some of these "high-end" snow helmets. what the fucking fuck someone please explain to me how this is fair. do snow helmets come with magical enchantments or some shit?

anyways i probably won't ski with a helmet this season because my head isn't worth the price of a new skiing helmet.

that's still twice as much as as a bicycle helmet rated at a higher safety standard.
i COULD just wear a bike helmet, i won't though. just trying to figure out how they get away with this.

logical reason: ski helmets are insulated, bike helmets aren't

more likely reason: people who have the money to ski are more likely to have more to spend on gear, and therefore can pay the higher price, so the company raises it accordingly

mmm i dont think biking is a cheaper sport... have you looked at the prices of bikes and bike parts recently? to build a good wheelset alone is the price of skis + bindings

bike cost < skiing gear cost+tickets/passes+traveling costs, you cant ski to your local hill can you?

therefore cost of skiing > cost of biking

Full face helmets generally aren't used for riding through your local park on a gravel bike path..

$5000 for a bike + $40/day for a lift ticket + Gas money to get to a hill + at least $100 a month for maintenance just to keep your bike ridable > $650 for skis+bindings + $500 for a pass + gas money.

Telling someone to ride a DH/freeride bike to their local mountain is about as feasible as telling someone to put on their skins and walk to their local hill. Telling them to hike/ride up the mountain is like telling someone to skin up the hill to ski down.

you sir are fucking retarded. also, a small amount of ski helmets cost $140, let alone more, and any full face mtb helmet (if its a full face, it is basically made for downhill) that won't shatter on impact will be well over $140.

Wut? Unless you're hauling ass down gnarly lines, a full face isn't going to be any safer than a regular ski helmet. In fact, it will be more dangerous in most scenarios because the added weight increases neck injuries.

so true, i wore a full face twice biking this summer, it was my buddies troy lee designs. and honestly i did not feel comfortable wearing that thing, but then again i dont think they are meant for riding urban/ street haha. DH though the helmet gave me a crazy sense of security
