New Sugarloaf Trail Map!

Sugarloaf updated their trail map to include burnt mountain. These glades are going to be sick! The first phase, which is opening this season, will include wide open western style glades along with tight eastern tree skiing glades. And anyone who is familiar with Sugarloaf knows that a lot of the snow on top of the mountain gets blown to this area of the mountain, creating great powder skiing. Anyway, I just wanted to create some hype for this season at Sugarloaf, so if you have a New England pass, definately hit up Sugarloaf.

wait until you see the sick cliff they opened up, you could get to it before, but the landing wasn't clear. Its gonna be so dope!

Yeah its sick, we got a whole briefing on how the whole glade is going to turn out for this year, this past weekend at ski patrol refresher. Its gonna be dope

pics are necessary of said cliff, (and there will be new cliffs opened up closer to ripsaw that you couldn't get to before because the woods were too thick)

yeah they opened up the landing to hells gate and all the G-spot, G-force and G-rush, etc. All the local spots. Theres also a cliff right next to ripsaw that you couldnt get to before because it was way too wooded and now its all opened up

I was talking to my boss the other day and he said that even if we got a huge storm in the next few weeks, it's not going to be open for a while because they still have a lot of work left to do on Brackett Basin. Apparently the work on somewhat on hold right now because they are waiting for the lumber they cut to sell to pay for the rest of the project. Typical Sugarloaf fashion. :(

kind of expected...they are pretty for up north, big logging are. Still though the big storms wont come for a while so hopefully it all be taken care of when there is enough snow to open it.

Does anyone know if its going to be a high speed quad, gondola? And where will the lift start, the bottom of Kingpine? I heard talk of remaking the gondola but i think its too windy for them to make one. It seems like half the time i am up there, Timberline is closed due to windhold.

All in all the Loaf s going to be so good this year and years to come!

I'm not sure what lift you are talking about? But currently the plan is to replace spillway this summer with a fixed grip quad. It's going to run pretty fast so they are going to put in one of those conveyor belt systems in the load area to get people out to the chair fast enough.

I would imagine that they are planning on putting a lift over on burnt eventually, but there is a large laundry list of other things/ lifts they want to put in first. I believe that after replacing spillway, they are planning on extending timberline so it runs from Bullwinkles to the top.

pretty sure a gondola would be the best choice. pretty sure a gondola would be on wind hold a lot less than a chair since it is enclosed, can have the offloading in a shelter, and is heavier so it would be less likely to be blown around violently like timberline.

the enclosed part doesn't have anything to do with putting a chair on windhold. Theres a state law for tramways and elevators that says that it cant swing more than 15 degrees, or about 2 feet. It's kind of hard to explain, and is more of a judgemental thing on what should stay open and what should be put on wind hold. It's all about safety over the sheave trains. If a chair or a gondola were to swing hard enough when its going over the sheave train it could derail the lift. Essentially putting in a gondola wouldn't make a huge difference over a chair unless it was a funitel.

its going to be so nice whatever they do. I didnt know they were going to replace spillway. Both spillway chairs or just east side? I didnt know they were re doing timberline. If anything they should make it a t-bar because like i said before, timberline always seems to be closed. The thick spruce trees at the top would help sheild the gusts.

I think a gondola from the village right about where whiffletree is all the way to the top of burnt would be sick, but that wont happen lol.

this expansion is going to make sugarloaf such a better mountain, sick though it is already. I think the expanded terrain will really spread people out, which can be a problem at the loaf. I was up yesterday and was thinking with my friends how sick it would be if wiffletree was turned into a top-to-bottom park, with the lift serving it and a few runs off to the side. Its a great length for a park, has a good pitch for one, it would concentrate the park to a better area, make for a better competition venue, and allow quicker laps. Also, it would keep those damn jibber kids off "slow" runs like tote road, where we always get shit from the ambassadors for skiing too fast. its a really improbable concept, but it would make sugarloaf such a world-class mountain i think

that would be so sick. The stomping grounds were so nice. When it was that long trail with the tiny mini pipe at the start, then it would be one element at a time.

the exact opposite would happen. gondolas have more surface area, more places for the wind to hit. so they would swing more than a chair, putting the gondola on wind hold MORE, not less

not true. The gondolas at snowbasin can run in 80 mph winds and the tram at Jackson bigger than anything can run in 100 mph winds.  I only used those two because i know for a fact that is what they are capable of.  They are stronger running and heavier.  They do move a bit and you can tell its windy but they dont go on wind hold much actuallly

different cable, clamp, and weight allows gondolas to be on wind hold less. a dainty little chair swings more and swings easily which puts it on wind hold more.

not to hijack the thread but I guess Sugarloaf is going to get some snow this weekend.  I heard 5 on Friday night into Saturday and maybe 8 through staturday to sunday/monday.

I 'm stoked to go this weekend first time out and possible snow.

Uncles condo lowest level of the timbers literally ski down to the super quad so nice. So your condo is kinda near the tubing park?
