Canon GL2?

What are your thoughts on the canon gl2, i have had some people tell me i shouldnt get it and that its not that good, and others who tell me to get it. has anyone used one, and would you recommend it

I have used it for almost the past 2 years and use it for school aswell.

The video quality is good. The built in mic is alright and the video files are pretty small for being good quality. Also the manual focus is not great but it has decent enough other featurs like auto-white balance.

Anyway, that being said i DO NOT reccomend it. Honestly it would have been a great camera to buy a while back but not anymore.

For the same price you can get something like the Panasonic HMC40 which is HD, has better video quality, and is tapeless (imports a LOT quicker)

So overall i would say do not get it and look into an HD camera.

from what i no... and it isnt much but i was looking into getting it to start out filming. lots of people told me that its old technology. people told me to save some money and get a dvx or atleast check it out. another thing ive been told is it just looks cool cuz it has a handle. i was looking into getting a gl2 or cannon vixia hfs200. check out my thread

Old technology, you have an SD camera and mini dv. Two dieing and obsolete technologies. If you still want an SD camera get a dvx.
An hv20 will get you better looking footage then a GL2.

I have been using a GL2 for over 5 years now and it is a great camera. True, technology now is a bit past it but that isn't to say it is bad quality by any means. Like everyone else said, it is SD so your not going to have as crisp of a picture and it uses miniDV so you have to import and capture off a tape (which to me is the shittiest part about it). But it if you use the manual settings, lock it down, you can get a picture that has very good color and contrast. If you look at the videos in my profile most everything was shot with my GL2.
