Reducing Video File Size Without Loosing Quality?

I've got an edit with an original rendered size of 2.07 gigs as an .AVI. With Vimeo, the max file size is 500 megabytes, so I converted with streamclip down to 65% quality .MP4 to get to the 500 megabyte size.
The quality still looks really good, so it's not too big of a deal, but I was wondering if anybody knew of a better way to reduce file sizes without loosing quality?

render with h.264 and have it on 1280x720HD and then use compressor, not fcp compressor and compress to mpeg4. and you should have a file size around 20-100mb
