Replying to Conditions in MA

Despite the paradoxical pass grabbing and torture sesh, last winter was a decent snow year at Wachusett. A particular moment which stands out in my mind continues to reassure me that the North East is a place worthy of my time. While riding H lift over the last roller (whick also made a good hip) I was fortunate enough to watch a fellow shredder pull back off the lip into a Backflip 720. I could read the bottom of his skis as they appeared to stop for a moment while the unknown skier tilted his head up to spot for landing. All in all, seamless. About mid-winter, we experienced a nice cold spell and 6-8 inches of snowfall leading up to a great powder day. There was already a base of up to 20 inches and trails carved through the forest. The conditions were prime enabling me to depress my tails into rich Powder. I had the most fun on the mountain on the untouched snow. Experiencing this quality ten minutes from my home/school is quite frankly dirty. Now, let's go back to the paradox. While traversing the edge of the forest with two fellow shredders, I found myself cruising down a fairly steep slope, I mean, I was cooking through easily spaced trees with great turning power, and all of a sudden the trails on the left and right converged, propagating a dense brush growth in a cone fashion. I turned right quiickly and found myself sitting on my tails,riding out a doggy door sized tunnel ion the branches slightly out of control. Don't worry, I was feveriishly watching uphill while this occured and I was well prepared to stop at any moment. I shot out of the mini-trail like Pierce's dunked ball in November 5th's Celtic's game. Coming to a stop power-sliding backside uphill a few feet from the edge of the woods. I started down the trail to meet up with my buddies and found them handing their passes to a park ranger. He made us repeat the montra "there are no glades on Wachusett" which beggs the question; why? The answer which was given to me by a bearded man in the Herseys Hut is there are no glades on Mt. Wachusett because it is a State Forest Reserve meaning; the low growth forest in between the trails is required to be protected by the Forest Rangers. My next question for him was why then is there a commercial ski slope on the mountain in the first place? All contemplation aside Having to watch a 90's ski slope safety video for 45 minutes was lame. Thus, don't get caught riding through the woods.
