Last night, I was playing in a hockey game, pretty typical, not much of a surprise for me. I was along the boards skating with the puck and a player on the other team comes up and tries to hit me, almost football style, headfirst and shoulder to hip. I stopped on a dime and the kid hit the boards, headfirst, and broke his neck. I feel like it's all my fault. If I just took the hit, the kid would have been ok, and me most likely just shaken it off and kept on playing. I had a nightmare about it last night and am just feel like I'm going insane. I ruined that kids life all for the sake of keeping the puck. Please NS, this is totally serious. I am going to drive out to Pittsburgh to see the kid in the hospital, and I hope to god the kid's family doesn't sue us.
That's definitely not your fault and you can never be mad at yourself for something you had no way of predicting. Also i'm pretty sure theres no way they can sue you
its not your fault at all. its hockey you simply got out of the way of a hit they cant sue. all you can do is hep the kid out and pray. ++ vibes to the dude in the hospital
first of all he cant sue you because you did nothing wrong. second of all it is completely his falut. im a hockey player and i know it is illegal and absolutely retarted to lead with your head for that sole purpose. not your fault in the least bit. its how the game goes
It's a shitty situation for sure, but you were just playing the game as it's meant to be played. How were you supposed to know what was going to happen? You can't blame yourself, especially for making a split second decision.
Props to you for going to see the kid, that takes some guts. It'll make a lot of difference too. It's going to be tough, but you're going to have to move on and accept that it wasn't something you could have foreseen or prevented. Be thankful and good luck man.
That's in no way your fault. It's a risk you have to take when playing any sport, especially something as physical as hockey. Definitely go visit them in the hospital and see how they're doing. Give them a little prayer. Breaking your neck is one of those things that can go either way so it isn't definitely that the kid is going to have a ruined life. I definitely should have broken something with this one fall at the mountain, but I didn't. Life works out differently for everyone.
++vibes man.
i would say a bunch of stuff about not blaming yourself, it was just a coincidence, this kinda thing happens, he knew the risks when he signed up to play and could have chose a different checking technique, don't live in the past Etc. but i know whatever i say isn't really gonna change your mind, but i think seeing him in the hospital will work wonders. and its not like hes gonna be mad at you for not letting him hit you, its the same situation with the family suing you. they can't sue you for dodging someone whos about to hit you
Holy fuck. Is he like vegetableized now? Whats his condition?
Like everyone else said no way is it possibly your fault. not gunna vibe you though because fuck internet vibes. But seriously, no doubt your freaking that's some fucked up shit.
it sucks, but the kid will heal and you will feel better about it, you just did what you thought was right, you were playing hockey, the goal is to keep the puck. its not anybodys fault, just an accident. ++ vibes to both you and him
Definitely not your fault. Shit happens and that's that. This season in soccer I've broken a kids collar bone, a few kids ribs, and knocked a kid out. At first I felt kind of bad about it but then I realized that I was playing my game, and they were playing theirs, and shit just happened.
I'm not 100% sure of the situation, but I believe so. Whether it's temporary or permanent (I hope to god it's temporary, and the kid will be able to come back similar to how CR did,) I don't know, but he had no movement what so ever on the ice.
Vibes to him, but it's still not your fault. His life isn't ruined either. I have a quadriplegic uncle who has been paralyzed since he was 14, and he's still a happy person.
