im a year round life guard, we learn a ton of different emergency stuff, just in case anything ever goes wrong. last season i saw a snowboarder riding a rail jutting out 45 degrees upward over a slant, i was only like 15 feet away from him when i saw his board catch the rail and he basically did half a flip and landed on his head. no movement, instantly i unclick and run up to the guy and my hearts racing, ive done drowning rescues but never something like a dry spinal. im crouched over him trying to get a response, he had a very shallow pulse but was breathing. i yell at my friend to go ontop of the jump we were under so no one lands on us. He violently starts convoluting this was on and off for a few minutes and eventually he seemed to regain consciousness. no clue who he was, where he was or anything, his dickhead friends tried to pick him up and board off with him saying "hes fine, he just needs to go in the lodge" i wouldnt let them take him and made them wait for the patrol to come over.
shits scary when it happens, totally different mindset then ive ever had before
