Stiff Park Skis

Looking for:
Stiff
175-180 length
responsive to aggressive skiing

I weigh like 175 and raced for my whole life so I want a ski that is gonna give
something back not just crap out when you put some energy into a turn, something that holds an edge when you are going fast and is not just going to chatter and leave you praying they will hold when you really need to crank out a turn.

So ns, particularly ex-racers please help me find something i can carve and jib on.

Volkl walls are a stiffer ski.  I have them in 177's and they are great.  hold an edge, carvy, but can also butter when you throw your weight into them.

A lot of people are going to recommend Chronics. Don't listen to them because they are super soft. Refer back to Ace of Spades post and have fun.

thanks alot to all of you guys, volkl never even crossed my mind for some reason but i'll definitely check em out. while i'm making a post anyways i've got a shitload of marker comp 20's kicking around does anyone know if you can use them safely without a plate?

rossi s4 is another option.  wood core, metal laminate, race base... podium ski.

Cryptonites, S4s or Pipe Cleaners...all very, very good options, all are durable, fast, stiff, and fun.

If I had to choose and order, it'd be:
S4

I just checked their site and according to the specs it has a 180 tip rocker and 150 tail rocker not really sure what unit of measurement that is but I don't think I'm gonna go with a rockered ski

i'd agree, volkl would be great for your background.

and honestly, armada would be too. i ride some ar6's and if the ar7's are anything like them, which i'm sure they are, they are exactly what you're looking for. they're stiffer than most and will carve like a race ski if you've got the energy into 'em.

i have last years and im an ex-60-point FIS racer. my last years s4s have NO ROCKER. they are pretty stiff and they shred, but centre mounted they are wierd to carve

I would defineately reccomend the Line Chronic Cryptonite; I rode them for most of last season and they performed well pretty much everywhere.

Nordica Ace of Spades. Nordica used similar constructions to its doberman line of race skis, to give the ski more energy, stability, and pop especially.

In the length your looking for the ski is a true twin, so it's not going to carve like your like your races, but this ski is the closest thing to what your looking for.

I would say for a pure park board either the Volkl Wall or The Salomon Suspect for sure. If you are looking for something more versatile but still stiff then perhaps Dynastar Sixth Sense Distorter...it's a bit of an all-mountain/park hybrid. If you wanna go bigger, get last year's model of the Line Blends if you can find them. This year's is too soft with the changes they made to it, but last year's is killer.

Coreupt TJ pro is stiffer than any ski listed on here and is a true twin. I've got a few pairs of S4s, they have a mild flex, not a stiff ski.

Also, not talking shit but if you weigh 175 and you can actually ski a little bit you need a 180+ dude. Or you kind of suck, which is totally straight cause I kind of suck too.

Yes the S4 is rockered this season. The measurements on the website are in mm's so converted it's about 1.8cms of rocker in the tip and 1.5cms of rocker in the tail, it's not much.

S4s pretty stiff i dont know if they will still be as much so as they were with the rocker but i doubt it will change much

LOL WHAT? S4's are not rockered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but they are a bomber stiff ski. Go buy any 180ish pro level pipe skis. TNK's, S4's, Pipe Cleaners, JO pro's, ect. would all be great options. Chronic cryps are not that stiff, neither are AR7's, they are both mid flex skis, so if your looking for

The Volkl Bridge isn't really a park ski. It is a twin tip, but doesn't have a symetrical shape at all and is more of an all mountain ski. I would also recommend looking at Line's new Step Up ski haven't skied it but the video said it was a stiffer ski.

Some of the best selling park skis arent symmetrical. The Bridge does fine as a park ski, its only 92 underfoot. OG Seth Pistols used to be huge deep pow skis, and they were what, 95 underfoot? Park skis have filled out and gotten fatter recently, and with the advent of park rocker, I think they'll eventually settle around the mid 90's.

And for the dude that posted the thread, check out our Jeronimo - Bamboo core with carbon fiber stringers, rocker with camber, medium stiff, and some of the thickest bases and edges you can put on production skis. Racers tend to love our skis, might be a good fit for you if you're cool with 96 underfoot.

Some people like the feel of it. Hell, it seems like half the skiers at Stevens Pass use Hellbents in the park. I could get into a bunch of reasoning about how if you're going to add rocker to a park ski, you need to increase surface area somehow to make a stable platform to stick landings, and that because extra length = more swing weight you instead wanna fatten the ski a bit... but lets just leave it at some people like wider skis.

That's pretty interesting, I've noticed that ski companies such as k2 have increased the width of their park skis. Although it seems that a park ski with a wider base would be more beneficial to west coast skiers then east coast skiers.

For sure on that, k2's been sizing up every year, and wider skis kill it in the mashed potatoes we usually ski up here. I dont know if we'll ever completely drop a mid 80's waist park ski, because there is a strong following that like those skis, but who knows where technology and design will push us?

That's true, but a stiff narrow ski will provide as much stability. That's why you often see the combination of stiff with narrow and soft and fat among park skis. A soft narrow ski such as the afterbangs isn't as stable on landings as a rossignol S4, which is a stiffer ski. Volk bridges are wide park skis but they are quite stiff. They are more considered an all mountain ski though.

JUST TO CLEAR UP THE ROSSIGNOL ROCKER CONFUSION:
I believe on the S4 and S5 the rocker measurements given simply refer to the length over which the tip and tail rise.. so on the s4 the length of rise is tip/tail is 18/15cm, i.e. its a normal twin tip or very close.

The 2011 ace of spades, pipe cleaners, ar7 and specially the jo pro's skis's are not stiff. You should look at the dynastar range, salomon suspects, fischer addicts and maybe a pair of 09 walls. If not the 2010 or 2011 walls are a bit softer but still on the stiffer side, s4's are a pretty similar flex.

there are two versions s4 and s4 jib. the s4 jibs have rocker and regular s4's do not

I was talking to a Rossi rep last night, and apparently this year theres only one version, and it has rocker. Its mid 80's underfoot, medium-ish flex, and the same sorta rocker that the S3 has. Are you thinking of the S6 perhaps? That ski does have two versions with very different camber profiles...
