WTF??? When did that shit blow up? All I hear from all the highschool kids is omg omg omg, pretty lights, the new ep, omg omg pretty lights tickets. Apparently sold out red rocks? Wtf is going on?

damn I feel like I've already learned the stuff covered in that class, but that certificate program would be fun to get. and I am never in boulder, two jobs plus full time school doesn't give me enough time to make it up there, but if I do I'll pm you beforehand.

I've seen Pretty lights a bunch times. Played every festival just about the last few years. This bandwagon is ridiculous. ZOMG ZOMG pretty lights. Hopefully it's $20 and under.

How? There isn't even a shit ton of live to it. HE just dances in front of his buttons and the lights twirl around a little. Not that it isn't a fun dance party, but the fact that you rate that as your top live show makes me feel bad for you.

I actually really enjoy the music, and know more songs than Finally Moving. I feel like he'd be cool live, but I wouldn't go to Pretty Lights show expecting a rave vibe.

hahaha yeah its pretty disgusting.

Went to see PL back home where of course he is fucking huge, and all the kids that used to be assholes in high school are like, "OMG SOMEONE GIMMIE A LIGHT SHOW AND A BACKRUBBB!!!"

It was so horrible haha all the kids i never wanted to see again infiltrated my friday night! ha

"I remember him before he was big. /hipster" Not really hipster. I saw him as he was getting bigger in the jam scene. All jam festivals are just loaded with hipsters. He started to get big in the festival scene. Still not that good, a fun dance party at 3am when their isn't much else going on and you're in the right mindset. Then all of the sudden every kid in the country was like zomg, pretty lights.

So you listen to a lot of good ass shit... but you hate on pretty lights? How? the mixes he puts together are so fun and chill to listen to...

I think you just hate how good music is going semi-mainstream and youre taking it out on the rest of us by acting all high and mighty.

Chill out, and listen to your music and enjoy it... whether or not someone listens to katy perry or not isnt up to you. focus on yourself rather than being a bitterfuck by dissing what makes others happy.

As for why i hate on pretty lights...they sound like every other beat dropping, sampling, electronic band out there...theyre just like girl talk, big gigantic...its all the same

And im not here to dance, im here to ski...

Having said all that, yes it sucks that good music is going mainstream, def ruins most of it for me...but still, im not impressed, but im gonna poke around on youtube and hit up some more pretty lights songs i guess...try to expand my horizons and stop being a so-called "bitterfuck."

I've only sen PL 3 or 4 times. Listened to it a couple of other times. Never really listened outside of live shows though. Not hating on it, just think it's a little overkill hyped. I don't mind it, it's a fun time in the right mindset, but it's not the best music to ever grace this planet.

thats a pretty bold accusation to throw around man. how the hell do you know if hes doing smack? just so you know, it would pretty damn difficult to maintain a dope habit while touring nonstop.

but ya I've seen him play a couple times and its a decent show with great music, I mean few electronic bands are really dynamic live(Justice the huge exception-fucking amazing).

didnt realize it was the new hotness, but thats a good thing if its true. why shouldnt good artists be rewarded? should they eternally toil in poverty so they dont "sell out"? jackass

I'll admit it's a little overkill hyped... but it's fun, so who cares.

I've seen PL 4 total times now, and i'm going to yet another show on the 20th. Theyre fun as hell, and always turn a great crowd environment.

And yeah.. no shit it's not the best music to grace the planet... thats the most debatable subject of all time, and it's so objective that its not even worth going into. Thats why I hate when people diss on others music so much... if shit makes you happy, its all good to me...

yeah no, thats super fair, that was actually outa line, there is no reason for me to be throwin around rumors that I can't confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt. Anyway, what musicians choose to do in their free time is none of my business. His music has gotten considerably more chilled out however, and I don't enjoy it as much as his early work, and I'll just leave it at that.

As far as I know he isn't. At least not on the regular. He seemed like a cool enough guy before, doubt that much changed in a few year. I never really heard anything bad about him personally other than the people with the button pusher hate. I don't think the heroin post was serious anyways.

Yeah dude, I dunno, I live in Boulder and its impossible to have a reasonable conversation about music here. Everyone knows a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy... I get caught up in it just like the next guy. I've been trying my best to mostly keep my mouth shut about everything, and just enjoy the music that I love, but the scene is just so crazy and everyone is spun off their minds on drugs its just hard to sift through the people who actually know what they are talking about or not...

And yes, that was a sincere apology. I really don't know why I posted that in the first place. I mean I know people that know derek personally, but I don't so, I really shouldnt be saying anything about him as a person at all.

I'm not in school but its huge for highschoolers. That's the biggest part of the bandwagon. Once a few got into it it just spread, now it's the cool thing to do.

But if you're young, there are plenty of mahld out highschool girls at every show by now i'm sure. I've never seen PL outside of the festival setting. I like it like that though. Party all day with all kinds of great music, then wander over to whatever latenight stage PL is rocking out on.

I do like PL a billion times more than girl talk though.

Yeah man, the worst here at least is the fratty Bro type. PL shows are filled with flat brimmed d-bags jumpin on the electro train. Like I said in a post above all the "cool" kids from my high school who listen to whatever is popular on the radio love the shit outa pretty lights.

I guess money is money to artists, but I know a lot of super heady people that will never be caught dead at a PL show cause the scene sucks so much. If you have seen Sound Tribe since summer '09 you know the kids, cause they are all bleeding into tribe shows after a day outa time at red rocks that summer.

Yeah. Sort of like the bisco scene of these days. They aren't as much the bandwagon type people though. When something starts to get popular everybody dives in for that reason, it's their favorite thing in the world till the next thing comes along. At least at festivals it's the same people that came for the other bands swinging by. It happens though
