Rail wax

I was wondering if anyone puts wax or anything on rails to make skis slide easier on it?

My friend and i just wire brushed and sanded it to remove the rust and nicks in the metal

is there anything else we need to do?

You can use candle wax but more times often than not it doesn't really matter. as long as you brushed it thats what really matters.

I have that stuff. Shit is stupid. Each one sucks alone for each person. Then when you combine them, it just smells minty, that's it...

Rub wax on the rail, any type will do. Rub on ski wax seems to work well on urban rails by why waste it when an old candle would do.

Neat idea, but most of us prefer putting our skis on our feet instead of up our butts.  Just sayin.

To OP.  I would use normal ski wax.  I went and bought warm weather Swix orange.  It works great on metal and PVC.  Makes it slide really consistent.  Using candle wax, WD-40 or other oil based products will screw up your bases.  Oil based products prevent the wax from soaking into your bases when you hot wax them. 

If they are just going to be your back yard jib skis, then it probably doesn't matter.  If you still want to ski on them in the winter, then use wax that won't screw up your bases.

Ideally, you want wax to match air temp.  Swix Orange wax (the stuff that is used for hot waxing) is great for summer sessioning because it is for warmer temps.  It will be printed on the package what the temperature range is for each wax.  Just get the right wax based on temp and rub it on your rail as needed.  You'll notice a huge difference in the way it slides.

Yes, BAM!!!  Just like that.  PVC or Metal, painted or not.  The wax makes everything slide better.  It helps prevent the paint from chipping off.  Because you slide better, it keeps your metal and PVC from getting burred up.

Yea wax helps. And cheap wax works. Go to walmart or meijer and pick up some gulf wax. Comes in a box with like four blocks and its like 3 bucks. Lasted me a whole ski season.

For PVC you dont need to wax it. I have done backyard jibs with PVC all the time and never waxed the PVC and it worked great.

lol dont use ski wax shits expensive. skate wax works excellent and is way cheap.if your really poor you can walk around your local skatepark picking up forgotten pieces for your summer set up

a good old fashion hot scrape will keep your bases good no matter what is on the rails.  so buy the cheap stuff for the rails and use the good expensive stuff on your skis and you will be fine

i found a sick urban rail the other day, went up hit stop on it and ate shit went in a store bought a candle and rubed it on the rail and went up and ate shit again. how can i make it slide right?

Its usually not necesarry but definitely can be. Spray on sunscreen does the trick to!

Sand it, and theres this rust off stuff that comes in a can you can get at a hardware store. That would get most of the rust off.

Sorry for the bump, but quick question, how bad does candle wax ruin your bases? Today I slid a pvc rail with candle wax about 6 times, are my bases gonna be pretty messed up? And also how can I go about getting the candle wax off the rail?
