Nikon D2x vs canon 7d

Alright, this is my friend's setup and money, but i get to use it a lot

He got a d2x from his dad's friend, but is looking at doing some video, obviously the 7d has video and the d2x does not

in your opinions would it be better to sell the nikon setup (will list below) and buy a canon 7d setup, or keep the d2x and buy a t2i or separate video camera

it looks like the 7d is on par, if not better than the d2x for photos, especially in low light with the 7d's much better iso range, so i see no reason not to



His setup right now is D2X, 18-55 kit, 80-400 f4.5-5.6, sb-600 and maybe some stuff i'm forgetting, and how much is this setup worth?



Just looking for some more opinions and stuff to show him

His set-up now is prolly worth between $2500 and $3000. (just based off ebay prices and such)

Personally i'd say stick with the D2x and wait to buy the T2i. If he does decide to sell his nikon stuff pm me. I'd probably be interested in the D2x.

I think you're better off with the 7D. Thats an older nikon and it doesn't have any really high quality glass. The 7D is a lot newer and you might as well invest in better glass.

its in the op, the 18-55 kit, the 80-400 4.5-5.6 and one more that i can't remember

and before hate on nice body and shitty glass, he got the camera handed down from a dad's friend

Pretty much the question comes down to does he *need* video. No, not want. Need. If he doesn't need it then keep the d2x and buy some nice primes.

I say go for the 7D because then hes going to have 2 different brands of cameras with different lenses and it will get much more expensive quickly. Sell that setup and get a 7D then build one set of lenses for one brand and that will be a lot better in the end.

Seems kind of stupid to me to mix up brands like that. The whole beauty of the HDSLR concept is the interchangeability of lenses between both video and photo. If video is really necessary look into a 7d.
