X games Slopestyle Mandatory Quad Kink.

Lets see it. I think it would raise the bar to a more challenging level without being too ridiculous. Its been getting wack in the last couple years with the jump to rail ratio when athletes are stopping double corks 12s but can't land a 450 off of a flat bar.

yes there was. and someone fell into the snow fencing doing a 4 off of it. It was at the top of the course before the gap to box thing. At least last year they tried something different with the hitching post but that wasnt really that cool

it seems to me like consistently finishing a quad kink is so hard that there would be quite a few people coming off early and not really being able to get any tricks on there, obviuosly a few people would but i think the majority of competitors wouldnt do so well on it. just my 0.02

Quad kink sounds like an absolutely stupid idea. I'm sure most pros are expected to hit quad kinks like its nothing, but it just doesn't seem right for X-Games.

In Colby's defense that fence was stupidly close to the rail. I do agree that there should be more focus on rails though.

exactly. its the fucking x-games, not some local slopestyle contest. it would be difficult, but that's what makes them the best of the best.

this thread is an example of why the rails aren't as important to x games. most people on ns can remember what was thrown on the jump section, but apparently not many remember who did what on the rails (which is understandable). it could be that if more focus was on rails then more memorable things would be thrown, im just not sure who has the power to start that trend.

this is a great idea.

But i think it should be an option next to a different rail feature. as the previous setup was with a choice of line. maybe quad kink or S rail. make it challenging but not over the top.

way too much emphasis on jumps right now but that will change in the coming years and hopefully replaced with more interesting features.

i seem to remember in one of pk's blog posts a few years back he was bitching about how pro skiers shouldnt be expected to get to the end of the dfd on the xgames slope every time, can you imagine how much hes gonna bitch if you put 2 more kinks in there?

yeah i was surprised. they gave skiers no room for error on that rail. and i'm not dissing him, i was just really happy to see how quick he was to laugh it off.

they should put rails in that are going to make the non skiing crowd more interested in skiing. progression and growing the sport of skiing should be what it is all about? for the industry, the professionals, and the weekend warriors.

more skiers = more money = more competitive industry (from resorts to hat companies)

The x games course rails are fairly burly already. Last year they had a decent sized dfd, a huge ass cannon (it scared the shit out of me at Aspen Open and I think it may have been slightly smaller at that point) and a big ass rainbow. No matter what though, it is stupid to have rails that are too difficult to make consistently at slope comps. When they do, guys stop tricking them and just hope to make it to the end where they will maybe spin out. They used to have longer rails in comps but it is dumb to watch a bunch of dudes try to straight slide a rail. There is too much luck involved and not enough skill.

Even I will admit that the rails are pretty lacking in the xgames these days. They are basically jumps now, with the cannon rails and such. If they aren't jumps then they are probably used as landings, like flip on to rail tap!

I am not sure, but I think one of the issues might be the speed on the run they have.

As far quad kinks and steep urban rails and any sort of major focus being on a rail it's never going to happen. For starters we have seen for the most part judges don't even reward rail tricks that highly so where is the incentive for the riders? Not to mention its a technical aspect of the sport that is not understood or appeal to the masses which is their target demographic not us so forget about it. Smaller comps and events have some progressive features just don't expect it from the X Games

- at night, with fire, and a razor sharp 200ft octo kink.

The Aspen slope course area has always had a speed issue and shit is not going to change the way most of you want.

I think this would be the biggest problem. Stick a quad-kink in there and people won't be able to get through the course. With bad weather the girls struggle with having enough speed to make it as it is as it is.
And I don't think anybody would throw anything interesting, they'd all be trying to just get to the bottom. As it is pretty much all we get to see is 20-odd disasters on the dfd, some of which are glorified taps. I think stick with trickable rails and higher weighting from the judges would be ideal.

yea like it seemed like rails didn't matter to much last year... walker had some sick rail tricks and decent jumps and he still got i think 6th?

There is luck involved also. How come on a really hard rail it takes a bunch of tries to get it. And even once you get it once you dont get it every time after that. Part of it is luck. There is way more skill but luck is involved. If there was a super tech rail that you only get 1 out of 5 and you happen to stomp it during the comp that is partially luck.

I know some athletes that would be stoked on your idea, but then I can think of others who would be pissed off about it.

When you are competing at such a high level, you should be able to not only kill the jump lines, but the rails also.

The judges should definitely weight rails higher, but i don't believe non trickable rails should be part of the slope comp. As mentioned earlier a railjam as an X event would be sick! Then they would have to have both simple tricky rails and ridiculous quad kinks/double s'es!!!

So your telling me you expect the guys to  do tricks each run on something that they would spend a few hour working on to get their tricks right when filming???

It would be great to see less mute grabs before seeing more crazy rails.
