Winter Beers

Just started coming in the last 2 weeks or so.  Had my self a sixer of Mad Elf already.  What's everyone else into this time of year?

Just had my first winter ale yesterday. Im still drinking Oktoberfest but I was at my buddy's house and opened his fridge and saw some Blue Point Winter on the shelf and couldnt resist even though I was still a little hungover from the night before.

I've been working my way through a case of this. Always loved Sam's winter lager, and have tried some of these from years past, but some where new and different. The chocolate bock was definitely the wierdest of the bunch but still very very tasty. Lot's o dark beer in there actually but they all tasted very good and went down smooth. Holiday Porter was another that had a really great taste to it. Maybe I need to get on a dark beer kick cause I liked a lot of these.

Yum

Had my way with this case in just over two days, but i had some help during the flyers game.

Favorites were the winter warmer and the munich dark ale. Chocolate stout was tasty but a tad stronger than the chocolate boch of the sam adams winter mix. UFO is great, not really a winter beer but hey I love me a good wheat so I'm not complaining that they threw it in there. Belgian ale and the IPA made for a good variety of flavor over all the beers.

My favorite winter pack so far between the sam, harpoon and blue moon I'm about to do a write up on.

Had this case a couple weeks ago but didn't write it up. Nothing real special honestly. Only three kinds, and one is the standard blue moon wheat. Others are I believe a winter white pale ale, and this winter abbey ale which if my fried brain cells serve me right was a bit of a darker ale. All three are not bad but on par with standard blue moon. Kinda lighter in flavor than some of the other winters I've been trying lately.

Least favorite of the winter mixes so far.

Today I'm stopping for the saranac 12 beers of winter case to give that one a go. Flyers game on wednesday so probably a full update after that.

Got into the saranac last night while I was splitting wood in the driveway. Was out there for the better part of two hours so I sampled a few.

So far I got into the Lake Effect Lager, Bohemian Pilsener, and the Copper Ale. Not too shabby so far, I'll wait til I've had em all though to do a proper write up. All very tasty though.


Also the cheapest winter mix case I've picked up so far at just under 30 bones.

Sat down with a Rouge Mogul Madness Ale last night and threw on Aspen Extreme.  Talk about preseason stoke! hahaha

In my winter mix madness I think I have hit the jackpot. I was picking up another harpoon winter mix case yesterday and I see 5 or six cases sitting on the floor in front of the display of winter mixes. Just plain cases, so it peaked my curiosity, I reached down and opened one up to see a medly of bottle caps and bottles. After picking up a few I realized what was going on.......

The distributor took a shit ton, well 24 I assume, cases of winter beers and took one from each. It's a case of 24 different kinds of winter beers, one of each. I think I'm in heaven. Going back tomorrow to pick one up if they have em left for sure.

I'll post back here later with an update on this winter beer madness.

Oh and for ^^ Tom if your interested since you're in the area this is rader and co. over on 100 near the new giant. The case is 40 bones I think.

I'm lookin into a few kits to brew for the winter weather. Any suggestions? Preferably under 2 months of brew time total haha.
