Rit dye boots

I'm dyeing my boots teal and can't get the black cuffs off of the white boot. Will the dye change the black cuff or can I leave it on?

as long as the color you are dyeing is lighter than a color on your boot (can't go any darker than black) the lighter dye won't show up on a darker plastic in theory... it may alter it some some for non-black colors, But I'm pretty sure black won't show any dye
