Preparing for Breckenridge

I am currently preparing to head of to Breck in a few weeks time for the season, and since a lot of NS ride there I was hoping you'd be able to offer me any helpfull advice.

For example, is there enough snow in town to need waterproof footwear of will regular trainers be alright? Best places for powder riding at breck in bounds? Need for avalanche transceiver and backcountry gear? Free wifi in town?

Any tips/advice would be much appreciated!

Alright Tom,

I have been living in Breck for about 3 years now and I am originally from the UK as well. Breck is a great little ski town and you will have a blast for sure. Are you staying for a full season?

Normally there is a lot of snow in town but you can generally get away with wearing trainers as they are pretty good about sweeping sidewalks/roads free from snow. 

Best place for in bound powder riding in Breck is going to be the backside of Peak 10 or off the back of imperial chair. Although a better bet on a pow day is to head to vail/beaver creek, which has a ton of bowls that seem to accumulate a shit load of pow. I also like to ski A-Bay on a pow day as there is some pretty steep out of bounds stuff and is generally never too crowded.  

Should be enough places in town to poach free wi-fi, most of the coffee shops in town have free internets.

Yeah on a pow day ur gonna want to be at vail because the bowls are amazing.

He summed it up almost perfectly ^ ... Only thing I will say is that I have a pair of waterproof boots that I prefer over my trainers any day. Last season the side walks weren't too bad but it's supposed to be a very snowy season, so I recommend a pair.

and best advice is to go eat crepes at the french bakery next to rasta pasta, the classic or classic plus = best breakfast ever.

And there is a switchback between peak 10 and peak 9 that isn't an actual trail but isn't usually blocked off either, you can see it on maps and it usually holds powder because it's through the woods and not many people ride it.
