Dont mix alcohol with meds

An old friend of mine died friday. Apparently he was on anti depressants and was drinking. Just a heads up for some of you guys!

any info on the specific medication he was on? Or any other specific information regarding the situation (i.e. other drugs involved, how much he was drinking, etc.) I'm sure that info would increase the helpfulness of this thread to others in similar situations.

Truly sorry for your loss, really makes you reconsider what is important in life.

No, sorry . Right now all I know is that before he started drinking, he was on this anti depressant medication. I'll keep you guys updated though if I hear more..

One of my close friends died in his sleep the same way three years ago. We were all crashed on the floor after the party, he was sleeping next to me. Everyone woke up in the morning, he didn't. Sorry to hear about your friend.

yea i've been doing some research, and apparently the mix of the two release similar chemicals which affect your blood stream, and lead to really dangerous things

Seriously, if you are taking any kind of mood altering substance, be it prescribed or otherwise, make sure that you take into consideration all of the factors that can modify the way these drugs react with your body.

i think its because it makes the medicine not work temporarily and kids commit suicide.. damn . ++vibes bro

sorry for your loss...

I take ADD medicine sometimes (Dexedrine), and it seems to be safe to take with alcohol. It is the kind that lasts all day, and sometimes I am still definitely on it when I start drinking. If I know I am going to be drinking a lot though i don't take it, but that's just cause I will probably not be studying for long that day anyways.

I also have a relative who was taking SSRI and has no issues with alcohol, although it is a very small dose that she takes in the winter.

if the bottle says don't take with alcohol, you probably shouldn't but should at the very least should find out why.

Sorry to hear about this. My sister died last year, also from mixing alcohol with medication. So to anyone reading this, be VERY CAREFUL about mixing medications, especially depressants/sedatives with alcohol.

yeah for real. anything thats supposed to affect your mood is already charting into unknown territory; the brain's not that well understood. So compounding the effects is a bad idea.

and no, people don't commit suicide after they drink cause the meds stop working.

You should also keep in mind that any amount of alcohol in combination with SSRIs can be dangerous very large. There are many doctors and scientists who believe in it, even a deadly combination, and the reason why quite a large number of suicides by teenagers.

Alcohol makes people feel better, because it triggers increased levels of serotonin in the body. This is also the same mechanism, in general, using SSRIs. Excessive alcohol consumptionConsumption with the use of an SSRI can be combined to result in excessive levels of serotonin in the body. High levels of serotonin can produce include manic behavior, suicidal thoughts and actions.

I've been on SSRIs for 6+ years and have never felt that when drinking. I have always wondered exactly what happens when you mix anti-depressants and alcohol, so I tend to watch my consumption because of it.

well, last week i had pertussis and every night before bed i took 3 extra strength advil's, a dose and a half of codine syrup, my steroid pills for my lungs, 2 different kinds of inhalers with steroids and shit, anti-biotics and 2 shots of brandy then went to bed. Im still alive. :D

I like to pop a xanax bar or 2 and then drink a bottle of jack,
