10 man dig 10 hour on 10 holes => 100 manhours/10holes
10manhours / hole
5 manhours / half hole
so 1 man has to dig 5 hours ?

if you interpret is a hole that's half as deep as the initial holes you can....

Thats iffy. A hole can be half as deep as another hole. The riddle implies that said holes are at such a depth/diameter/etc that it takes 10 men 10 hours to achieve. So we assume that half a hole just means a hole half as deep/half the diameter/etc. This is important stuff, get your shit together man.

if size doesn't matter and a hole is a hole why do they have to dig 10 hours if the holes can be the size of a golf hole ?

unless of course they're digging with bare hands in granite rock or something....
