Looking to upgrade my sound system

So my system in my 2000 Subaru Impreza kinda sucks...nooo bass at all. So i'm looking to replace the speakers. my question is, can i buy some good speakers that will give me some good bass? or do i need a sub woofer? obviously a woofer will give me a crazy bass, i'm not looking for that. i just want my system to sound like ones in most cars today. my previous car was a 97 nissan maxima and it had a sick system with really good bass...was there a sub woofer without me knowing about it or was all of that bass just coming from the speakers?

get nice speakers before you get a sub. then get a nice amp and one big sub

Maximas usually come with a Bose stereo system, thats why its so nice sounding. No extra sub or anything.

if you don't want retarded bass, you can still get great sound from upgraded interior speakers. you'll want t nice 4 channel amp to ensure that you're getting the best sound possible. of course none of this can be accomplished without a solid head unit.

You can honestly spend as you want on this. The sky is damn near the limit. It's not necessary to spend thousands of dollars, but for high end stuff you could easily break the 1,000 barrier for a head unit, 4 channel amp, and new interior speakers.

honestly for now i was looking to spend under $200...i mean if i spent $200 for some interior speakers, could i walk away with some decent bass?

no get a head unit too. if you get a decent head unit with decent speakers the head units amp can give it some good sound. hook them up to another amp (4 chan) to make them even better. but watch out, soemthing with subarus and thin doors make it hard to fit speakers i hear

if you are just doing speakers, get enclosures for them too, it will make a HUGE difference for bass

don't get subs.. they're fun for like a week then they just get old. You can't even hear the words. I'd rather listen to a song then bump.

$100 for head unit. +$50 for install
$100 for 2 6x9's. +$40 for install
$80 for 2 6.5's. +$40 for install

that's all for fairly low grade stuff too.

thats because you (or whoever you know with them) is an idiot who only bought them to play unnecessarily loud. they are meant to round out the music. just because they CAN go that loud doesn't mean you should play them that loud...

the head unit doesn't have all that much to do with it
get a quality system with a nice amp to put out the amount of power you want
if you aren't looking to spend >$200 then you may want to forget the idea of this at all

then you might be able to slide by for $200 with some cheap speakers you find for cheap online and the stock wiring, unless you choose to do it all yourself.

what should i be looking for in the speakers themselves? like what are the key specs i should look for? (watts, frequency, that kind of stuff)remember they have to fit in Subaru impreza doors so i don't know if that's going eliminate some of the bigger speakers. And i'm honestly not trying to put in a ridiculous system. right now i have no bass at all...i just want my system to be up to par with the average stock system today...that's plenty of bass for me

thats true i had alpine type r's coaxial's when i went to swap them into my wrx they were to big and i ended up having to go with s's instead.  u will most likely have to space them so that they dont hit the window or the inside of the door panel
