this sounds extraordinarily fake.

NASA is not in the business of condemning people to death. They never have been. Spaceflight is risky as hell as is, they do everything they can to make it as safe as possible. This follows none of their guidelines. If that was the case, rather than spending almost 10 years to get to the moon, we would have been there in 12 months.

I find it funny how they think they are going to build a spaceship than can go to Mars with only a million.

But hell who am I kidding they don't give a shit about money considering the space station costs about 176 billion.

there are probably hundreds of nuclear submarines/ power plants currently in use in the world, and just because something is "nuclear" doesn't mean its going to cause a nuclear explosion.

and even if it was the us/ussr have already set off dozens of nuclear weapons in our atmosphere with little effect on the planet.

i'm well aware that not everything nuclear blows up. but in comparison to a nuclear power plant or submarine, the chances of a space ship exploding is incomparably higher. and there's a huge difference between the release of radiation in the troposphere and the upper atmosphere. it would absolutely have global consequences

NASA managers had known that contractor Morton Thiokol's design of the SRBs contained a potentially catastrophic flaw in the O-rings since 1977, but they failed to address it properly. They also disregarded warnings from engineers about the dangers of launching posed by the low temperatures of that morning and had failed to adequately report these technical concerns to their superiors. The Rogers Commission offered NASA nine recommendations that were to be implemented before shuttle flights resumed.

did you even read the article? its about settling on other planets. you would spend all your time on mars setting shit up and what have you. its not condemning them to death at all. you just cant come back to earth which is a shitty deal anyways.

well i was exaggerating with condemning them to death, but it still seems highly unlikely that they'd create a plan that basically involves sending someone there with supplies, and hoping for the best.

and challenger was of course nasa's fault, but it wasn't an intentional thing. They did a hell of a lot of things wrong in the lead up to it, but it's not as if the board of directors met one day and flipped a coin to decide whether or not the crew should live.

well yes, space travel is by nature inherently risky. Just think of what they do. Leave the planet.

though strangely the rockets we used in the 60s/70s to get to the moon were safer than the current vehicles.
