looks good man... u needs a case, but maybe browse around for a mobo with sound card/firewire built in...i dunno what's out there for compatibility for osx but it sounds like u did the research

I just saw it has a sound card built in so I won't bother with an extra right now. So stoked to build it, for $850 its a monster.

I have a mac right now, 2.2 ghz 3gb ram and it just isn't fast enough to handle my video editing with the large files I have.

why not get an SLI motherboard so you could upgrade down the road? video cards upgrade so quickly, so you could probably pick up another 450 for cheap soon

no it would not. A hackentosh has been and always will be a computer running os X without any real mac components. You don't need to hack a mac to run linux anyway.

Please, for the love of god, don't buy that power supply. Rosewill is a brand that thrives by making the cheapest, shittiest stuff imaginable. If the power supply fails it can fry your entire system. Spend a couple bucks more and get one from a legit company.

why don't you pay the extra 50 and get the gtx 460. wtf is a gts. make sure your mobo can run 1600 ram. looked at a quad core? prob better for your final cut stuff.

Gigabyte Mobo's FTW.

Decent build for the price, although are you worried about it being loud? as fermi's are hot... unless you get the MSI Cyclone edition....(which I highly suggest you do).

And as for best CPU cooling for your money, the MUGEN 2 is the best out there.

The Hyper 212 is good too, it's super cheap and is better than stock cooling. But I think it uses push pins instead of screws... may be wrong on that one.

he's right though. you can't just buy OS X and install it on any old PC. which is why there's a name for a hackentosh. this is a topic that constantly comes up on tech blogs and in magazines, and just because you hadn't heard about it doesn't mean it's not true.

Probably. i never considered putting OS X on a non-mac PC was considered hacking, because I've seen it done using nothing but a liveUsb and an independent install program like GnewSense for OS X. I wouldn't really consider that hacking. :\

i have a hyper 212+. its screws wrapped in a spring. its pretty big. i'd make sure you have enough room in your case for it and that it won't interfere with your memory slots. i do the push pull set up with fans on either side.
