I just got this binding and i noticed that the metal plate near the toe slides back and forth and i found out its called a gliding plate. What does this do?

I believe it allows for use with adult and kids boot soles

I saw this too. I think it is on all of the Marker bindings. I think it reduces swing weight in the ski, bindings, and boots. Thats just my guess. Or maybe like how the Look bindings back piece reduces the chance of a broken foot or ankle during and ejection or fall.

Woops, I thought u were talking about the fact that the afd itself moved forward and back, changing the height of the afd. The actual thing that slides is called an afd (anti friction device) it is designed to prevemt ur boot sole from sticking upon release, therefore ideally preventing twisting fall injuries, torn acl/mcl

It's to allow your boot to eject out of the side of the toe piece with less difficulty.

That's the AFD, or Anti-Friction Device. Most bindings have this as a piece of Teflon, and some of them even slide (the PX series have a sliding piece of Teflon, while the FKS/Pivot series has non-moving piece of teflon). Marker uses a metal piece that slides back and forth on their Royal Series. The point of this is so that if you fall the bottom of the toe of your boot (the part with most of the pressure) is able to move more easily (hence anti-friction - it takes the friction out so it moves more freely).
