Actually, from what I've heard, that's not true either.

It looks like they'll be snowmaking as much as they possibly can through the weekend and next week. They do need more snow to comfortably open--preferably 12-18 inches, but snowmaking will be able to pull that off for the Basin Express and Musical Chairs.

On Tuesday (at the earliest), they'll make a decision about opening day. My guess is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Then they'll be open seven days a week--just like normal. The rumors going around the Sandpoint have been ridiculous. Being open seven days a week is Schweitzer's greatest strength--they're the only resort within two hours of Spokane that is. They wouldn't give that up. Not to mention the fact that we're entering the holiday season.

but me and hons went up today and they ahd surprisingly good coverage! in the park(so about midway) they probly need a good 7 inches to cover all the sticks! the top looked pretty good but cant be positive since i didnt hike all that high!

but there was defiently enough to ski on!

Seems reasonable. That's around the amount they usually need to open. From what I've seen from the top though (from the Selkirk Powder webcam and the Lakeview cam, as well as anecdotal reports), it looks pretty good, with just under 40". Once again, snowmaking will cover that for the Basin Quad and Musical Chairs. Next small storm arrives Monday. Next major storm may arrive Thanksgiving weekend.

And there's no doubt in my mind that they'll be open seven days a week. Once again, these rumors have been ridiculous. Seriously, where have they been starting? Because my impression has always been that the MIG ownership and the Tom Chasse management has been one of the most stable in Schweitzer's history--and without a doubt the one with the clearest vision. Let's face it; the economy is bad, which doesn't bode well when the skiing side breaks even and the real estate side is so tied to the housing/financial crisis. But season pass prices have been the same for the past four years, they've done more and more for locals (Sunday Solution, Sunday-Friday pass, extending last year, etc.), they've replaced Chair One, and continue to be unpretentious and genuine. And friendly. Seriously, locals have very little to complain about. Stable ownership. Stable leadership. Once again, those are things that have rarely been present in Schweitzer's history.

Anyway, I'm just tired of seeing the date "December 10" everywhere. I'm tired of seeing rumors that Chair 6 will only be open on weekends. I'm tired of seeing locals berating management. None of it is going to happen. Seriously, they need to go visit "Canyons" or some other resort where there's a disconnect between resort officials and the public. Because the one that seems to be perceived at Schweitzer doesn't exist. Schweitzer's always going to depend on locals (and Spokane). They know that. Trust me.

Anyway, it looks very good for the day after Thanksgiving with Musical Chairs and the Basin Quad (with Midway only) and new terrain being added as snow allows. But we'll see. And trust me; seven-day-a-week operation is a given. More likely to be cut as a result of cost-saving measures are a few night skiing days, events, etc. But after that, there's not much else that they can comfortably cut without sacrificing the guest experience.

I stand corrected, though. Looks like this weekend only then reopening next week for seven-day operation.
