i need a new pair of skins, now im cheap and want to know how much difficulty Ill have if I buy a 100mm wide to fit my everyday skis, then go and use them on my bacons on a day with more snow. anyone know if having a skin that doesnt fit the base completely in this case by 15mm will cause me much trouble?
it will cause trouble when you're trying to skin up steep sidehill on a firm skin track. if too much edge is exposed you will slide back a lot. i've skinned with less than ideal skins and i can tell you it is one of the most frustrating things you can do especially as you start to get tired
If you are using the skins on your properly fitted skis to actually tour with(more then half a day round trip);
If you are using your bacon's to just do some slack country quick laps out of bounds and skinning back in or anything along those lines, you'll be fine.
if you are skinning in exposed terrain, or if you are quick to temper and frustrate easy, i would get properly fitting skins for both.
I have swapped skins between skis for years, you just have to be ok with the less then steller performance.
