Home Music Studio?

I've been into producing music for a couple years now. and idk i've never figured out how a whole studio comes together. the pianos plug into the mixer? the mixer goes to a software ? how does this all work? please help me out!

You can basically do everything with the software - all you really need is a microphone, external sound card, and a DAW and you're set to start recording. Obviously there's more stuff you want but that's a start.

You can also buy DAW controllers with allow you to mix and control effects and play midi instruments. Other things you'll want include a midi keyboard and/or controller, monitors (speakers), and a good recording space. You can also connect instruments such as synthesizers into your computer using your external sound card.

However, these are just basic suggestions, it all depends on what you intend to do with your studio.

so i don't really even need a mixer then? lol that really confuses me because i see mixers everywhere and such.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to DJ you'll definitely need one. A mixer is really helpful otherwise also, but not totally necessary. If you're starting a home studio then you'll be using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) which means you won't need an analog mixer - you'll just be able to use a controller (NOT an analog mixer) to control the DAW's mixer. What kind of stuff do you want to do?

Produce beats, already do that but idk i want a more wider range of electrical instruments. i have 2 midi keyboards atm. looking into a mpc but i don't get how all that plugs in. i know some are usb but idk not enough slots or anything thats why i was wondering about a mixer if thats even what its used fo.r

I believe an MPC would plug into an external sound card. Don't bother buying a mixer, your software can do that stuff for you. If you want a wider range of sounds then pick up a microkorg. They're like $400 which is mad cheap for a synth, and it comes with a mic and has a built in vocoder. Plus, everyone uses it - look on Korg's artist page on their website and read some of the interviews, they all have microkorgs.
