You show me where in the Bible it states that God "doesn't like atheists." Or Jews, muslims, or gays. God loves everyone, and Christians are supposed to mirror that love.
Separartion of church and state is fabulous. I wouldn't want to be told that I have to stop believing what I believe by a political authority.
As for being misinformed about what gay marriage is, I believe it would be a same sex couple, given the same rights as a hetero couple, as far as medical rights, tax/financial rights, land ownership, etc.
As for my lack of knowledge of Leviticus, and that being the "masthead" argument of the religious right..... In the Old Testament, homosexuality is condemned and called an abomination prohibited by the "law." Of all the sexual "sin" listed in Leviticus 18, homosexuality is not singled out as being any different or any more worthy of condemnation that any other sexual sin. The list is long- don't have sex with your mother, your sister, your niece, your aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, while a woman is on her period, or with anyone else's wife. No sex with men, no sex with animals. Basically, don't have sex with anyone other than your wife.
Now, in the New Testament, Jesus came, died, and rose again, negating the Old Testament law by being the ultimate sacrifice, the living testimony of God's love for His people. Jesus was once asked which commandment was the most important of all? His response: love the lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself.
So now, Jesus cancelled the old law, and wrote a new one. Does that mean that homosexuality is now ok and permissible? No, because it goes against God's created order. Paul talks about it in Romans 1. So, it's wrong, but we (Christians) are supposed to love our neighbors (in this context, homosexuals), as ourselves? Exactly. I do not support homosexuality, but I will do far more than tolerate gays and lesbians. I will love them, as people, as brothers and sisters. Loving them, to me, does not entail defying my beliefs, most of which are based on the teachings of Jesus and Paul, by voting in favor of gay rights.
Don't call me ignorant, misinformed, a little kid, or be disrespectful to me, because I have done none of these things to you. I have respectfully disagreed, and shown my reasoning. I haven't asked anyone to agree with it, or accept it as true. I've simply shared it.
