The boy scouts is all about duty to god. Plenty of religions sponsor scouting, including buhdism. The rest of your post is simply too stupid to address.

I work at boy scout camp in the GYE, we have a diverse mix of LDS troops, community troops, and other religiously affiliated troops. They all get along and religion is never brought up. The scouts are more interested in shooting guns and bows, sailing, and generally exploring the wilderness. While you are busy hating we are building bridges.

uhh, i said that I know that there are homosexual couples that adopt and raise children, and i did not say that i don't think they should have tax cuts to help them raise the children, i stated why the cuts were intitially in place. no where did I state that "I" don't want to give them tax breaks to help raise "their" kids.

Yeah I am. I'm cool with most mormon hate because it tends to be valid, and well you know people have different ideals, values, opinions, etc so to each his own for the most part. I'm not going to lie to myself and say that everything about the religion is full proof because it isn't. However, I don't like it when kids think they know everything about the religion and say that mormons oppress others just because they happen to live in a heavily mormon state or city when in reality they know very little. All they do is bring up random ish they have heard from their parents or other anti-mormon kids. When someone actually studies the religion and has valid points then i will listen to them.

This is something I can totally respect. I have a lot of mormon friends like you and I will continue to have mormon friends that have their own interpretation of what LDS is for them.

What really bugs me is that the religion is often used as a scapegoat for political affiliation ( what isn't these days). That is when it encroaches on other lives. ie funding a massive political cutback against gay marriage. Regardless of stance on the issue, the amount of funding the LDS church put fourth for persuading the vote was disgusting. The LDS church does a lot of good things, but the millions and millions of dollars put fourth on that proposition could easyily have helped kids who have one 2 job working parent or no parent at all. One of the REAL problems here and now. The huge amount of single parents and divorcees is much more of a threat to the "sanctity" of marriage anyhow. It's been corrupted by material goods.

The gold diggers marrying older guys for money. Why is there no big social backlash on that? Where is the LDS church trying to protect that sanctity of marriage? Again, political talking points show us a huge hypocrisy.

Alright, there we go. I don't know what to say about that. Trust me, you don't need to emphasize NO. I am just as aware of that as you are. I've watched the documentaries, read the books, websites, and so on that go into this issue, and I am not about to say that all of those Archealogists, DNA specialists, etc are completely wrong, and site the Book of Mormon as my proof that they are wrong. That's just silly. I have also searched for what the church's answer is to them. The only thing I can say is that the LDS Church definitely has an issue there, and with other logistical problems along those same lines. It drives me insane how most Mormons tend to just run from those problems, or not even admit that they are there, and act like if you bring them up you are some kind of sinner and are drifting away from the church. I wish that the LDS Church would deal with them more. Hugh Nibley and B.H Roberts are some of the few that have attempted.

And to Mitch Pee - trust me it probably disgusts me as much as you how much money the LDS Church poured into Prop 8. I really wish that they would just drop the issue.

hahaha Trust me I feel the same way. He's has some of the sketchiest and most controversial teachings and past out there, and to be honest some of the most disturbing teachings. His Journal of Discourses is full of them. I was once laughed at by my entire Seminary Class when I brought some of them up to see if the Teacher could clarify any of them.

No I am not done. The Boys Scouts of America does not cling to the biblical scriptures. They are non-denominational. The scouting program is sponsored by various religious organizations, which then incorporate their own scriptural literature. Please cite one situation where the Boy Scouts of America have said it is alright to molest children, until then, get your shit straight.

I see where you are trying to go with the Mountains Meadow Massacre, but you have to understand the history behind that. The LDS church had just spent the better part of the past two decades at the time being kicked out of every settlement they had. When I say kicked out I don't mean a polite you have to leave, I mean mobs ransacking their homes, raping the women and children, and murdering many of the settlers. They had just come from Missouri ( I think ) where it was legal to kill a Mormon ( I believe that law was only repealed in the 1960's).

Needless to say they had put up with loads of bull shit, and they had finally made it to Utah (Mexican Territory at the time), and felt like they would be safe. Wait a second though, President Buchanan decides to send 2500 troops to Utah to wipe all the Mormons out, called the Utah War. ( exterminate you could say). It was at that time, during the Utah War, that the ill - fated Arkansas group found themselves at Mountain Meadows.

I am in no way trying to justify the massacre. I am just saying that at the time the Mormons were going through a lot of stuff. You must give the LDS Church some kind of credit for not really bringing any of the in justice against them up.

The sex abuse reports contained in these files were hidden by indivdual councils that were trying to save their own hide. Do you know the outcome of the cover ups? BSA prosecuted those involved and then implemented the youth protection training program, mandatory for all youth leaders. There is also a policy that states that there needs to be two adult leaders present at all times whenever they are around the youth participants. A scout is never allowed to be alone with a single adult leader. The boy scouts now trains more indivuduals on youth protection than ANY other youth organization in the world. No other youth organization investigates child abuse as agressively as the BSA.

On the gay scout leader. Bible scripture was NEVER cited in the support of their case. In your own articles words, "This is not meant as a social commentary," Smith said. "We do not have an agenda that we're pushing. We don't discuss this with our kids. We're simply an organization that feels like this is the right thing for our membership and we move it forward and we simply focus on our mission. It's really that simple."

Your sources are weak and bias, not to mention that these incidents are 20+ and 10 years old. If you are citing the huffington post and CNN then you might as well throw fox news into the mix. You litterally are blinded by the media and you have no idea how the BSA is organized and operated.

I was not trying to compare pedophelia and homosexuality, i was trying to make a joke at your expense.

Considering that the trial was recent, shows massive cover-up by the deciding councils, not just individual regional councils, and that these molestations are consistent and widespread, It'd be safe to say you are in denial about the BSA. The rate of abuse is just too high to offset the "we train more youth protection leaders than anyone else" argument.

First off i was making a point that BSA does not cling to biblical scripture and the quote you cite supports my claim. Give me one quote where the Boy Scouts of America use biblical scripture to uphold their policy.

Second, Yes if I had children I would have them participate in scouting. Out of the 3.2 million cases of child abuse annually in the U.S. only .00006% occurs within the boy scouts. Many more children are molested by teachers then boy scout leaders. Would you send your children to school?

I am sorry that I inadvertently called you a child molester. I don't know you and am therefor in no position to judge you. But you are wrong when you say the Boy Scouts of America cling to biblical scripture that says it is alright to molest children. The Boy Scouts of America have created what many child abuse experts call one of the best sex abuse education programmes in the US. I am not denying it happens, it is truly tragic in any scenario, but the BSA does not support child abuse.

Which is not exactly true. Non-denominational maybe in the sense they don't subscribe to a particular sect of the Christian faith, but they ARE discriminatory because of their faith, and they cling to Biblical scriptures as proof for their expulsions of atheists and gays. Therefore, they abuse scripture (specifically the cherry-picking from Leviticus), and cause harm by not following through on their molestation cases, and by teaching kids it's okay to discriminate against gays and non-believers.

Hahaha. Guess what guys... Marriage between homosexuals is going to happen whether you like it or not... December 6th is going to come, and no matter what the ninth circuit rules, this shit's about to be appealed all the way up to the supreme court... and once it gets there, with how constitutionally inclined that court is, I see no way in hell for this ban on gay marriage to stay.

The Mormons. The Catholics. The Evangelists. and Every other fundamentalist religious sect opened up a can of worms, and all I can see is it backfiring in their faces... because the America I know, doesn't stand for unethical inequality... I don't care what church you go to, who raised you, where you were raised, or what reasons you have for why marriage should have limited context... You're time is up. The end is near for short sightedness... and the struggle to resist change is futile.
