To everybody hating on dubstep.

First off, I will agree that I have never heard a good dubstep song in an edit, so I do see where you're coming from. I do, however, feel compelled to stand up for a truly incredible genre. I will also admit that very popular dubstep sucks dick. Caspa, Mt. Eden, Datsik, Excision, It's terrible.

But to everybody saying dubstep is awful, basing this decision on Caspa, Datsik, or whoever else 14 year old wannabe hippy girls call dubstep these days, you say this in ignorance.

So please, everybody, do some musical research before you walk around trying to make funny analogies about what dubstep sounds like. It makes you seem like an ignorant ass hole to anybody that knows even the slightest bit about dubstep.

/rant, you're still invited to hate dubstep, I'm just trying to make a step forward.

I'll stop there. Of course there will be people that just plain don't like dubstep, just give it a chance past the awful dubstep you've probably been exposed to.

I personally do like dubstep a lot. However, I find that it is just bullshit that they can go onstage, press play and sit back the whole show. Great that takes some real skill. Obviously they can change stuff up while they play, and they do, but it seems to be pretty much impossible to really fuck up.
The songwriting process itself does take time to get good at, but again, many songs are very similar with the same parts being repeated over and over, with slight variations. And everything is in 4/4. That is not that difficult.

So yeah, its entertaining, and that's why I listen to it, but in the end i realize that it doesn't take that much musical talent. Download FL studio, get the basics down and i guarantee any of you can make something that sounds cool.

im mostly into oldschoolish rap, even then im pretty picky. just not a huge fan of it in general.   and fuck i dont know what THE sick beat is, theres shit tons of music out there other than shitty transformers noises, that could actually be considered a "sick beat" 

maybe its cause im not very into parties that i dont like it, but the few parties that i do go to, which now consist of mostly dubstep, just make me want to get the fuck out as quickly as possible.  

and i dont drive a jetta

and to whoever posted that beach boys song, thats real party music.

oh yea, drugs

i know two types people that like dubstep: those who do mdma, and those who to listen to evanescence.

its just so fucked up, one of the songs you posted started with quality singing, then bass, out of buttfuck nowwhere just blew its load alll over the vocals. it sounds like crap to me

I hate a lot of dubstep, but I love a lot of dubstep. I hate a lot of dubstep by an artist, but will love a few by the same artist.

To me, all the different styles of dubstep need to be respected at separate subdivisions of dubstep. Just like rock music. Alt, soft rock, metal, classic, screamo, indie, acoustic, ect. You don't hear people saying "I HATE ROCK MUSIC, IT SUCKS" because they don't like some speed metal song, just like people might not like some of dubstep, doesn't mean that ALL dubstep carries the same characteristics.

I wasn't asking if THE sick beat had to do with transformers noises but rather the actual ingredients that go into said "sick" beat. ie. bass, snare, vocals, maybe even a little Guitarre. So you don't like to party huh. Do you like plants?. ie. cacti, shrubs, bamboo etc.? Do you like your eggs over medium, over easy, sunny side up, or scrambled?

I hate 95% of dubstep. Like, I haven't found a quantity of drugs that makes it possible to dance to and actually enjoy. However, there is always that 5% of every genre that is worth listening to, and I don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement that all of it is horrible. This is the sort of stuff I can do:





But I will always love tech house and minimal techno. Someday mainstream dubstep will die out, but until then it will keep all the super fucking creepy teenagers on too many pills away from the good electronic shows.

and why the fuck does everyone hate on skrillex. Skrillex's music, to me, sounds to be MUCH more complex than any other dubstep I hear. (not saying skrillex is or isn't dubstep here)

Funny but what I've noticed is the opposite. These dubstep kids are now going to clubs/festivals to see artists I like (house music) and think it's the same atmosphere. I can't tell you how annoying it is to be packed in a club with a bunch of teens who don't know what they're listening to or how to dance and just get fucked up.

Judging by this thread, very few.

Im going to go ahead and play the claim game right now. I spent a decent portion of my life residing in south london (93-07). Through affiliations and gigs i have met hatcha, youngsta, the DMZ crew, crazy d, el-b, the bug, sukh knight (banged my lady friend, /claim?), distance, kryptic minds duo, benny ill, rob smith...i could go on. I say this so any of you kiddies cant call me a hipster for the following rant.

Firstly, to anyone complaining that dubstep sucks because you cant dance to it, you're missing the entire true point/meaning of the genre. I can accept your massive display of ignorance though with the fact that most of the dubstep coming out these days is just a gigantic pissing contest of raving synths and noise in general cough*brostep (99% of this thread, big ups to the burial post though).

Dubstep is not about molly, or 'raves' (that's a rant for another time), or glowsticks, or sex. Dubstep is about dungeons, dark rooms, blunts, special k, massive rigs, and above all...bassweight. If anyone wants me to reiterate that key word with some music ill happily oblige. Just don't expect to enjoy it through your laptop speakers or skullcandy icons.

One more thing. To everyone hating on dubstep and/or saying all it sounds like is robot noises...you really, REALLY don't know what the fuck you're even hating on. Take it from someone who's been there since the birth of the genre and knows what they're talking about /arrogance. Don't judge a decade old genre by the garbage you hear nowadays.

Considering you are asking people to stop hating on dubstep you've posted some pretty bad examples of why they should. What you have posted should not be considered dubstep at all, it should be its own or atleast sub genre called brostep. hard midrange bass... Dubstep should be kick on first, snare on third at 140bpm. the bass line should have no drive to the song. Dubstep should be drumline driven and not by the bass.

I would like to point out that the defining characteristic of dubstep is a timbre. One timbre does't make a genre. "Dubstep" is just a branch of electronic music. That would be like saying violin is a genre. That and it all sounds the same. The only dubstep line i have enjoid is one in a Crystal Fighters song.

Dubstep is quite bad. This is how Dubstep started:

Once upon a time on a rock floating in an arctic sea called England there were a bunch of stupid druggie raver kids. They had created this awesome genre called Drum and Bass that was infinitely better than every other electronic music genre. And they took a lot of MDMA while they did this. Then one day there were a bunch of these kids and they took some Ketamine. And they listened to Drum and Bass. And they though, my god, what if we just took the bassline from this song, but made it all warped and ridiculous sounding and based the entire song around it? And Dubstep was born.

Truth be told there are a handful of good Dubstep artists, and if you do Ketamine it is totally understandable why you like it. But like 95% of Dubstep DJs are terrible. And I've seen a lot of them, the world class banger ones like Dr. P and whatnot.
