Toe bang

I searched and couldn't find anything ...I bought new boots this yr used them for the first time today..and all day I kept slamming my toe into the front of Tue boot...I had this prob last yr..so I got a half size smaller thinking they wouldn't slide as much..I don't know what to do...is there a way to put a pad in front I dont know ...any advice would be helpful

i get that sometimes, i either ware thicker socks or put like a little cloth in the front of my boot.

I told the guy this is my size and i want a freeski boot. I tried this one and it felt good....

Hopefully by "felt good" you don't mean it felt nice and comfy... Because brand new boots should fit pretty snug, as after a bit of use they start to pack out and you get a bit more room...

its a half size smaller then i was fitted for the previous year..so i figured i wouldnt get toe bang like i did last year bc my foot wouldnt slide..turns out its worse

Well the guy who fitted you the previous year must've been a dumbass. And the by the sound of it you went in this year, and told the guy, THIS IS MY SIZE GIVE ME SOME BOOTS instead of allowing him to fit you. I work at a shop and I know when people think they know what they want I don't really deal with trying to get them into a better-fitting boot if they don't want one. Just today I had this kid come in who wanted some boots, I sized him up, brought out a pair, and had him try them on. He said they were extremely uncomfortable and way too small. So I brought out the previous years model in the same size, told him it was a bigger boot and he said they fit him perfectly. People are stubborn and think they know what they want.

Two questions, does your toe touch the front of the boot when you stand up and come slightly back when you flex forward?
Also, does your heel lift up when you flex forward? These are two of the big, tell tale sings of IBBBS. (I bought big boots syndrome)

I would suggest going in again and asking what they can do to make the boot smaller, larger footbeds can sometimes do the trick.

I feel ur pain, last season my toenail went blue then fell off! I can suggest 1 - see a bootfitter 2- footbeds 3 - cutting toenails waay too short

new boots should not be comfortable all around. they should be comfy on the general shape of your foot but they should fit very snug before you mold them

You should take the boots back if possible. You obviously didnt see a "boot fitter" because he would have not let someone dictate the way the bootfit goes. ie. letting you tell him your foot size! I am now assuming you are in a big boot maybe 1 or 2 sizes too big!

If you have gone down half a boot size for example 26.5 to a 26.0 you are actually in the exact same size shell with a slight difference in liner. So it sounds like you needed to go down a full mondo size. That would make the shell 1cm shorter and not let your foot slide forward in the boot whuch is giving you your toe bang.

All is not lost however. If you are still young your feet will grow into these boots.

In the meantime I suggest you get some custom footbeds which will prevent your foot sliding and also support your foot and stance correctly. Also a tongue shim is an option to hold you to the back of the boot and elimate some extra volume you presently have.

All in all, you should only deal with a proper boot fitter not some salesman moron.,

Also please note I am only assuming several things here as more info is required to really find out what is wrong. I hope this helped.

thanks for the help...the boots I got last year the guy measured my foot so this year I went down a half size from that...I know they're not too big my toe rests on the tip when I'm standing straight .

maybe they're not tight enough but when I have them real tight my foot was hurting too ...I'll try the foot bed pad thank you for your advice I appreciate it .

Your best option is to go to the shop you got your boots from and see if they have a fit guarantee, if not your next option will be to see an experienced bootfitter for a refit. They will check the shell fit and address the problems that are found. The most common solutions for toe bang will be to use a footbed to stabilize the foot, shimming the footbed to reduce volume, and using fit devices to lock the foot in place.

Bumping this thread.  I have these boots and I bought them to fit really snug and to my right size.  But it seems like in the 26.5 the liner is what is shifting forward to cause the toe bang

i have a 26.5. i still have toe bang, i sized down quite a bit to get into this boot (size 10 shoe) i have a dalbello krypton rampage with intuitions and footbeds, when i stand up straight my toes are right at the end, and when i bend my knees my toes pull back. i still have bad toe bang, and when i crank the shit out of my buckles, i loose all feeling in my feet, which in turn makes me sore as shit. bootfitters help! i can't imagine sizing down would do it, but then again i'm not a bootfitter

Guys lets be realistic here about toe bang.....if you jump a lot and land backseat- which happens to everyone, that force will go somewhere. All boots pack out and bootfitters will tell you (and its true) that toe bang is part of skiing. If you ski over a 100 days a year like I do and jump, you will risk yourself of getting toe bang.

It is not always the case that the boot is too big. I size DOWN my boots and still get toe bang. With ski boots, there is no general answer for each person. They are all different.  I just got some new pads to put in the front of my ankle to help with toe bang and we will see what works.

Also consider the liners packing out- Liners pack out like crazy which creates more space in the boot. That could also be a factor. Based on someone's foot, it can be very difficult to find that happy medium where there is enough space but not too much that it will create the possibility of toe bang. Continue your research with a bootfitter, trial and error goes along way with ski boots. Good luck.
