Pow ski & park ski - need help

I'm on my way to complete the 10/11 quiver, but need some help. I'm 5'7" 170lbs and want to just mess around, do some mellow stuff, play, ski switch and have good time. PowSki - I cannot decide between EP Pro's, New Life's, SFB's or Hellbents 2011. It should ski backwards in pow easily, but be able to handle harder or little wet snow. Park ski - Anthems or 2010 Kung fujas - it should be a really good jib ski for butters, presses, etc. Good thing for Anthems - they're about 200$ cheaper. Any opinion would be helpful :)

I have not ridden EP's, but people say they don't do to well in bad/tracked out snow. The Hellbent has more beef to it and will do better in those conditions.

Of the skis on your Pow list, go with SFBs or New Lifes. Bents and Eps will probably be too soft for the harder stuff. Also look into the Bentchetlers.

For park skis, I'd lean toward the Domain, I know it's not on you list, but the Fujas is a bit too wide for a pure park ski, it's meant for more like an all-mountain ski (unless that's more what you're looking for). Or, snag the Anthems, they're nice and soft and fun too.

Ok, I decided to get anthems, but still have problem with pow ski. I have to choose between 2011 Hellbents 179 or 2011 SFB 182. SFb would probably be better but I'm not sure about their width ( I was looking for something around 120 and wider) and stance back(not sure if camber&sidecut will work properly if I mount them 20mm back from dead centre - +4cm from recommended). Id say the Kung Fujas are a good mix between both park and pow, great way to save money is buy one pair that can do both.

go bent chetlers or nordica radicts for your BC pow jib ski. they both have a little more beef that eps or hellbents which translates to more stability with slightly less playfulness.  but both those skis are still very playful and fun.  cant help you with the park choice

I'm going to second this opinion except maybe SFBs instead of New Lifes.  But either way, if I was in your position, my number one choice would be those onep caylorz.

Yeah but it seems like he likes a soft ski.  I don't think he ever specifically stated it though.  Hey OP, do you like a softer, playful ski or a stiffer, charging ski?

You don't have to answer this question really, just get Caylors.  They were made to be playful in the powder while still being able to handle speeds very well.  And judging from all reviews that I have read here and on TGR that seems to be true.

Bentchelers would be nice, but I just can't stand this year graphic. I know it is just the look, but if I'm going to spend almost all my money i want to be able to smile when looking at...and I cannot try them anywhere. As I said main choice is between Hellbents(grate design, pretty wide, nice switch riding,really heavy) and SFB (narrow as for my demands, almost symmetric, more manouvrable, but still not sure about them). - I can have them about 100$ less than shop price. Goooddddd, it so hard to decide.

I would have them, but I'm getting Jmos seeing as I live in Maryland.  If I skied anywhere on the west coast though I'd have them and BGs in a heartbeat.  Maybe Wrens too.

Maybe Caylors are great, but shipping them to my country would be just too expensive:) I'm more surfy, buttery, just messing around skier who likes medium or soft flex skis. I don't like high speed skiing, so i'd prefer rather wide ski to still have nice flotation.

Oh alright I didn't know you lived in another country.  But the Caylor isn't a charging ski at all, it's just much more capable of going at higher speeds than the EPP or the Hellbent.  Where do you live/ski?

Poland/Tatra mountaines where we do not always have pow up to waist, but if we have it is incredible amount - ask TGR crew or Nimbus. That's why I haven' bought Hellbents yet eventhough they're cheaper than SFB. Has anyone skied SFB in really deap pow ?

Hey NS, is it worth paying 170$ more to have SFB super buer versitale ski I can take everywhere or save money and buy 2011 Hellbents and prey for really snowy winter ? Both would me mounted -2 from centre

If you get really wet snow, like it says you do, get a stiffer ski than the hellbents.. In my opinion they ski just as soft as the EP Pros, I've ridden both quite extensively and 99% of the time I preferred EPs.. they both chatter alot and neither are charging skis. Bacons are more all mountain and not really a pure pow ski. EPs are stiffer this year but still soft. They also seem to have less rocker this year which should make them a little more stable. New Lifes are A LOT stiffer and so are Bentchetlers (which I just bought for this season). I'd take either of those over Hellbents/EPs if the snow isn't fluffy. But they have narrow edges so not gonna be great for park. Out of interest.. why not support Majesty? (Polish Company for those who don't know).. Both the Lumberjack and Superior could be great for you!

For park get the Anthems if they are cheap. Park skis get wrecked, so in my opinion always buy cheap ones. Personally I prefer Elizabeths because I can't deal with

Superior would be nice if they had diffrent graphic(still just the look) and Lumberjack's are completly reverse camber skis so they are little bit scary if there's no pow ;) Can't decide between Hellbent and about 180$ more expensive SFB, which are my almost perfect skis(beside EP but cannot afford them)

I haven't even thought about non-rockered BC skis :) There one more issue with Superiors - they're based on JJs -> quite stiff whilst I'm looking for soft/medium ski.

Well the new hellbents are huge, I checked them out in a shop today, along with the new EPs/Bacons, JJs, Bentchetlers and Chopsticks.. I'm 5'9 and 140 pounds, I ski in switzerland, both jibbing and some charging. I've had 2 pairs of EPs and spent 2 weeks on the old Hellbents, skied a few other of the rockered skis too. For what it's worth this was my elimination process:
Hellbents: Too big, too heavy, I found the old ones felt as soft as EPs when skiing, but heavier. The new ones felt too heavy so I took them off the list. I personally found EPs a lot more versatile than Hellbents in the past.
Chopsticks: Similar, too heavy.
JJs: Weird soft flex in the tip/tail, on the narrow side.
My final decision was between EPs, Bacons and Bentchetlers:
Bacons: Decided they were on the narrow side and also kind of short. The flex isn't as soft as the Hellbent or EP so they seem like they'd charge ok. The rocker is quite long but fairly low. I'd say they are more all mountain than pure pow.
EPs: They have stiffened them noticeably and seem to have reduced the rocker too, which should make them more stable than they were. I debated these of Bentchetlers for like an hour before deciding on the Bentchetler, but only because I like to charge more recently and for that the Chetlers are better. But i'd have the EP over the Hellbent or Bacon.
If it really is hellbent or bacon, i'd just decide how often you will get days of more than say.. 35cm of fresh snow. Because the Hellbent is going to be better on those deep days by a lot than the Bacon, but for days under 30cm fresh the Bacons will be barely worse and a lot more versatile.

That's short edit from nearest mountain (don't know how to make it clickable).

Still cannot decide if I should go with SFB (I won't have to buy new brakes) or some K2 ski (Hellbent or Kung Fujas). Main problem is if it is worth to pay 145$/102€ to get SFB or there's no such a diffrence in performance between those skis.
Thing that is good for K2 is that i can get HB for 645$/450€ and KF for 535$/380€.

What do you think about it ?

If its 120 euros more to get the bacons than the hellbents, i'd just get the hellbents.. they're ridiculously big, but you have anthems anyway and i guess they'll be fun.. fujas arent really a pow ski in my opinion..

In my opinion too, but still way more versitale than Hellbents. So I'd go with Hells probably, but why they have to be so heavy ? Damn K2 and their heavy materials

Damned world and people who buy skis I wanted :/ So I still have a problem with skis, because someone has bought Anthems I wanted :/ Fortunatly I have a 40% off on K2 and I'd like to know what's teh flex of Revivals? And How Kung fujas perform in variable BC conditions (from wet, through harder snow to pow)?

Just so you have an answer.
Revival is stiffer than the Domain. Domain is gonna be much more like the anthems in how it skis.I did not like the feel of Kung Fujas really, it'll be ok for mixed conditions but for the real deep days I wouldn't want to be on them.

i had a hope Revivals would be more noodly :/ Domain just doesn't suit me with sizes. I decided that it's not worth having a REALLY fat ski when there's not always perfect conditions, so I'd go withKung Fujas as my BC ski. And 300$ for new ones is a good deal I think :)

thats definitely a bangin deal. Revivals are meant to be the K2 jump ski so i doubt they are noodly. Why don't you think you'd be ok on 179 Domains?

Because I'd like something shorter than my old AR6. I wanted 171 Anthems and they were perfect, but some one bought them. I think 174 revival would be ok I wonder how they butter, etc. I can also have Revival for about 350$ with Griffon Schizo, haven't asked aout Domains.

I'd guess due to measuring differences 169 domains will be the exact same length as 171 anthems, and domains are normally cheaper than revivals.

I know 09/10 K2 skis were measured too short (179Hellbents were about 185) but I have heard they fixed it now. Can anybody say what's Domains real lenght?

Revival will be better on groomed, but Domains will be more buttery and playful on rails.
K2 are measuring differently this year. 169 Domains will be approximately 170cm tip/tail. If you are more comfortable on the 174 length then go for them, they're rockered and will still be butterable as a result and i'm sure they'll still ski well at true centre. But the Revivals I flexed were not soft.

Personally i'd go for the Domains + Fujas, you'll probably find the Fujas ski pretty well on groomed.

(Yes the rocker on the Fujas is symmetrical, = length and height in tip and tail).

EP has subsantially lower flex index than a HellBent. And HellBents are fun in heavy wet snow like we get in the PNW. They can charge too. Watch Ager in Revolver and tell me he isn't charging.

if you're getting two pairs of skis, i would cross the fujas off your list. they aren't ideal for park, and wont slay the pow as hard as you'd probably like. If i were you, id go with either the revivals and the hellbents, or the domains and the obsetheds. Personally, i went with caylors and blue steeles which should ski very similarly to the obsetheds and domains. if you end up only getting one ski, the fujas would be a great choice.

I'd like to have Hellbents but we don't have so much pow so often. I prefer park and allmoutain ski for the beginig of completing my quiver. obsethed has pretty nice dimensions(tail could be more symmetrical to tip) but I doubt mix of powder and AT rocker as a BC freestyle ski.

One more question that maybe someone would be able to answer before I ordered skis. What size of Revivals ? 169 or 174 ? I'm 5'7". Skis should be playful( i know they're quite stiff) easy to spin(I really like flatgorund rotations) and carve well on groomers.

Next shitty annoying question - does anybody know how far from the center schizo inserts are drilled ? -3(Schizo has 3cm of movement forward and backward so it would a nice place) Cause I'd like to mount them with normal griffons/tyrolia peak 12 at -1 and put schizo on Fujas that I can have only flat.
