I work in bear country. We only have problems with black bears, the grizzlies keep their distance. Black bears are nosy as fuck. I have had a grizzly 10-20 yards away from my tent tearing up logs, i made a bunch of noise and he booked it. I always find fresh grizzly tracks within 100 yards of my tent, but never seen one in camp, they are wild. A couple of staffers and I have had to chase off black bears with rocks and air horns. In the case of wild bears that have not associated food with humans i would much rather deal with grizzlies than black bears. A wild grizzly can find his own food, a black bear is a different story.

But yes, grizzlies are bigger than black bears, welcome to the world we live in.

Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Targhee National Forest all euthanize more black bears than grizzlies on an annual basis. You have never had any issues, but management agencies have sure had their issues.

Keep in mind that i am not saying that black bears are badder and bigger than grizzlies. I am trying to say that black bears are more nosy than grizzlies.

This, they become much more comfortable in towns and around people. When I lived in Banff like 8 years ago black bears used to just wander onto your property and pass out, we had a house up on a hill and there was a staircase going leading up from the driveway, on one of the landings a black bear just passed the fuck out. Other times just in the backyard or whatnot, but on a regular basis black bears are the ones fucking about.
