Macbook Pro Randomly Shutting Off...

So i got this Macbook Pro the summer of 2008 before college. I'd say
it is in 8/10 condition, never dropped it or anything, it's only been to
class and with me in my room, etc..
The last week I have noticed that after a full charge (adapter light is
green) and i unplug it to take with me somewhere, the battery symbol
will say 2-3hrs remaining (depending if i'm watching/streaming
something, just browsing, the usual). After maybe 15-30 minutes of use
(batter bar still at LEAST half full (although it will say ~0:49
remaining) it will just shut off. The screen goes black and the only way
to start her back up is by connecting it to a charger and pressing the
power button, it will then reboot what i had left on the screen too.
It is not under warranty still, but do you think it's my charger? The
only new apps i have on my comp wouldn't do this.. (i did torrent two
programs but i dont think thats it) but i have noticed some noise coming
from the square box that is part of my charger unit, could that be it?
just wondering if anyone has had or heard a similar issue before i take
it to the Apple store...also this is preparing me to backup my comp,
just in case (knock on wood). thanks.

Nah. I think running a magnet across the HD of your mac should do the trick.

Yeah you gotta demagnetize the hard drive. Run a magnet from right to left across the hard drive at about half inch spacings until you've covered the whole thing.

theron, this is a prime example why i posted this in M&A as well. so fuck you.
secondly, i realize it could potentially be my battery, soooo i'm going to see what the store has to say.
and ^ thanks for the humor.

from my limited knowledge, I'd say it's safe to assume your battery is shot. I had a similar problem a few weeks back, but mine is a toshiba. Ended up only having to replace the cable, but since you say its when it's unplugged, i'd guess it's either not charging correctly, or the battery is dead.

Serious post here. Your battery is shot. Call apple and see if they can warranty it.

yeah, my bros mac, i tripped on the battery cord. it unplugged and instantly shut off, he fucked his battery it said "Health: 0%"
but my battery is like 600+ cycles and still at 94% only difference is he leaves his computer on all the time, and lets it completely drain and he doesnt fully charge it. so... dont do that with ur new one, turn it off and do full cycles.

my line of MBPs are rated to 80% at 200 cycles.
the new mbp is like 1000 cycles and 10 hours a charge. zomg. my buddy has it, and sometimes when he just unplugs it its like 14:06 hours
and to be honest, i have my computer plugged in a lot, thats why its "healthy"

just got back.
$139.50 for the new battery + 1 year warranty.
i was checking out the diagnostic and it said i was only at 380 cycles.
but this is what i have always done 80% of time: plug in comp to wall charger, let it charge fully, leave it plugged in for hours or until i decide to take it somewhere else in the house or go to school with it. to my recollection, i never let it drain all the way except for maybe 3-5 times over the course of the last 28 months.
what should i do to start off this new one right? let it charge fully now and then drain fully and from then on when it is fully charged, unplug it from the adapter and then repeat?
thanks for the headsup

basically, what should i do now to start off this new battery the right way and make each charge last 2+hrs (unlike my old one)?

alright thats what i was wondering..since batteries have 'memory' cells i wasn't sure if keeping it charged even when it was fully charged would fuck with the life of it but ill try ^ and hopefully this piece will last me some time. thanks

Basically you want it plugged in right up to the point where it is at 100% and then drain. Basically you just have to use it and not leave it plugged in when its at 100%
