Sell photos online for free?

does anyone have any experience using a free website to sell their own photos and make a little money. I know some of these site exist, i'm just wondering if anyone has a personal preference or knows one with the best "rate" for the photographer. I would really like a free site, because i have never sold pictures, and i only do a little photography. A few of my parents friends just wanted to know if i could sell online, because them and their friends want to buy some pictures

I know that http://www.imagekind.com/ has free memberships. I set one up a while ago but never promoted my art enough to make a profit. The way it works is every month after $50 of sold photos they either send you a check or make a direct deposit in your bank account. I think they give you a pretty decent percentage, but then again I never really invested the time to find out.

Hope that helps, I'm sure there's a bunch more. Any free account is going to have some limits though, just keep that in mind.

and i know there will be limits, but given that ive been paid like 2 or 3 times to take pictures, and that I don't sell on a regular basis, a real pro site doesn't really make sense for me, because i prbly wouldn't break even, at least not for a while

smugmug is only $150..and if your going to take this seriously(aka your making $) is WELL worth the cost. This is your number 1 choice to look like a legit photographer.

free to setup up..and you only owe them if you actually sell.


my question is, are you going to sell prints or digital downloads? What lab will you use? Taxes? Model release forms? Think you can just put photos of others online for you to make $? Its all situational, i suggest you highly look into it more. You can dig up legal troubles very fast.

if your not selling prints....and your selling to very few people...then just burn the images to a disc and hand it to them...no reason to waste your time on a site which will take you hours/days/weeks to setup.
