Torn ACL

So today I got the bad news that I have a fully torn ACL. My doctor says that with a custom brace I will be able to leisurely ski this season (a lot of filming) and get surgery in the spring and rehab through the summer. I know many NS members have gone through this shitty ass injury and I was just wondering if any of you would be willing to share how you delt with your acl problems and how recovery was and all that jaz.

Skied for the first time monday night after my ACL surgery. Got surgery in March, GO TO REHAB. Most important thing. I don't even notice any difference, I am actually skiing better becasue I worked out over the summer. Good luck man.

that sucks bro, i wouldn't ski if i were you, your other ligaments will be under more stress and are more likely to tear also

i tore mine the end of january last year, got surgery february 16th, did all the rehab and everything.

it was tough, but i got through.

fast forward to this august. i was skiing at a friends summer setup (dublife's) and landed a k-fed a little backseat. it felt funny so a week later i went to my doc and got the news that i COMPLETELY RETORE it. no fun.

so i'm in the same situation, i can most likely ski pow with a custom brace, then get surgery later on, most likely this summer

What? Leisurely ski? Fuck, I was out  for 6 months but I also tore my meniscus though.

I haven't done anything since I had mine at the start of may. I started to longboard at the end of august, so around 3 months, but nothing else. Skiing without and acl, even with a brace, sounds sketchy.

sounds like were in pretty much the same situation.

And I guess if I end up skiing this year at all is going to depend on how strong the rest of my knee is and what my doc thinks. I would say that it is pretty strong right now but I will be doing a lot of physio before the ski season so hopefully il get out on the slope just to film and cruise along with my crew until surgery in spring.

Fuckin hell.

My brother apparently tore his ACL and something else when he was 9 and never got surgery and he's skiing now at 20 perfectly well.

I fractured my anterior tibial spine this summer. The ACL pulls of the top of the tibial plateau. I healed up in 2 1/2 months because I rode my bike ALOT when I could. Lame stuff. Good luck

I don't know how people do it. I went back to snowboarding too early, intending to just cruise, not hit anything. Didn't even make half a day before I was hitting everything I wasn't supposed to.

I'm beginning to think that there should be a torn ACL tab under the forums button.

But just work out that fucking knee dude. The stronger you go in, the faster you come out. I worked the shit out of my knee when I tore it, and I was playing soccer in 4.5 months fully approved by my doc. That's all I can really say. Just get that knee up to fucking super human strength, and when it comes to post surgery, rehab like a motherfucker. Don't baby the fucker, and bike a shit load. Two weeks after my surgery I was biking everyday. It's okay to bike because your leg is doing nothing but straight up and down movement, so there will be no stress on your ACL. So there is my $0.02 feel free to take my advice or not. But just remember what you put into is what you get out of it. Blow off recovery and suffer for longer.

you should defiantly go to rehab that helps soo much, my friend tore his meniscus and he wasnt going to be able to ski til april and now he is going to be able to ski by march which is a little better. good luck though
